Toohey's News

Dom young seeking release under compassionate grounds to join the Knights, Hastings has left for England after living with a crying baby for less than a week.

Ponga is not playing in Origin and is seeking NZ representative honours.

Melbourne Storm is interested in Aidan Gow.

Haha my bad guys. Didn't mean to troll. I thought it was obvious tongue in cheek. But I guess that's how preposterously bad our fortunes are at the minute - anything is possible for us atm.

That said, the Dom and Ponga ones aren't all that unlikely.

And I'm backing Billys prediction re Hunt.

1/5

We have the money (Pryce money) and a top 30 spot for Dom Young and we are keen. Dom's manager says the story doesn't have legs and nothing about him leaving Roosters has been discussed.

Another rumour about a 3 way swop where we get Brown, Parra get Galvin and Wests get KPP this year has been described as no chance and not even talked about by Parr. Parr has form of lying like he's Peter Dutton when asked about contract negotiations in progress, so I say a Parr denial means it will be announced next week for sure.

Ponga has a rib cartilage injury, so is playing in pain.

Mat Croker is close to making a decision on his future and is likely to stay at the Knights.

Melbourne have made a play for Cooper Votano, younger brother of Connor Votano and 5/8 in Mathews - but halfback in Mathews, Chase Butler, has signed for 2 more years and Mathews second rower Mulherin has signed for 4 years. Another NRL club is also interested in Cooper Votano.
IMO, Butler is a long way ahead of Cooper Votano as a half, but Cooper Votano could play as many positions as his brother and has the same sort of athleticism and calmness about him, so could be a more valuable prospect.

I think Cooper has been the more impressive Votano this year relative to expectations and competition level. I take Harold Matts with a grain of salt in regards to looking for potential first graders because there’s so much water to go under the bridge at that age but I’ve been impressed by him.

Their skillsets and athleticism are very similar despite playing different positions and not looking very similar. The question mark I have with both is if they have the agility to really have high ceilings as outside backs. If anything I would say the way Cooper has gone at 6 (apparently a brand new position for him) would make me more tempted to commit to giving Connor an extended run in that role too.

The thing I like most about Cooper Votano is that he seems very keen and very effective in defence - not something I've seen from Connor Votano, who does the job as an outside back, but doesn't look keen on looking for work in defence.

Nothing quite says “try and retain” like “storm are interested”.

Look forward to him rejecting our 1M a season* offer in 5 years time to play reserve grade instead.

Wasn’t it the Bulldogs interested in Connor?

*inflation haha

Dom open to returning to the Knights. Knights want him but can't fit him in the cap.

Rumours that Ponga is now talking to NZ Rugby.

Hopwood to be released on compassionate grounds and sign with Storm on a 5 year deal
To be fair, as good as the joke is, this would actually be the most Knights thing to happen so it wouldn’t even be surprising.
