Toohey's News

I can't recall a player who basically had talent but couldn't keep fit or do the tough stuff turning it around. Have there been that many? Moses Suli? I can't think of many others.

People that are so ineffective generally they can't do their job, don't tend to change.

Schuster is a famous Knights name though! How good was the Shu we had back in the 90's!
Felise Kaufusi is the only one I can think of. Went from a guy who would be blowing hard after 20 minutes off the bench to an absolute iron man and rep calibre forward.

I think Schuster’s position is five-eighth, and I’d take the punt for the rest of 2024 only. Put him through a mini pre-season for four weeks and see how he responds.

He must get the mental support he needs before he plays any football. Think of the Angus Crichton experience after the last World Cup and how long it has taken him to hit his straps again.
Schuster needs the psychological support ongoing before he gets his mojo back.

We’d be taking the punt on him as a half. That’s the obvious position of need.

I think I would prefer to take the punt on Adam Doueihi.
No guarantees that he'd return from injury the same player he was. But damn Doueihi, he's a quality player. For me he's a cross between Jack Whigton and Kurt Gidley. If he'd managed to stay fit within a quality team structure he would be playing SOO imo.

For the short periods he's spent on the field, while not injured, he was absolutely carrying the Tigers.

Good win by the Raiders!! Well done 👏
I live in Canberra so I have a soft spot for them plus I love to watch the doggies loose 🙃
It was a really gutsy win by the KnightRaiders.
On any measure the Dogs are playing way below expectations, given that half the team and coach/ Director of Coaching are all former Panthers. It is simply unexplainable how poor they have been. There are so many great players there who are not earning their dollars or who are hotheads with small man syndrome. Guess who???

Seeing Carrigan the first time live, about three years ago at McDonald Jones, is one of those things that sticks in the memory. I'd heard how much Brisbane rated him but he'd had a lot of injuries to that point. Then to see him live you could see what the broncos meant. His intelligence and work rate on all things big and small stuck out that night.

It might have been one of those sliding doors moments when Payne's uncle, Larry Tuafua, got injured in our final Jersey Flegg game in 2006.
He was supposed to do a firstgrade pre-season in 2007 and wasn't able to. He suggested his brother, Mark Tuafua to Brian Smith, and Smith gave Mark a chance.
Larry was nearly as big as Payne and had massive impact in Flegg, but only for 30 minutes of so.
We'll never know if a proper firstgrade pre-season could have turned Larry into a great prop. Mark turned into a decent one, bu he didn't have the size of Payne or Larry.

I always wonder what happens to non sportsman with bigger issues. Let’s be honest Schusters biggest problem was he didn’t wouldn’t to stop eating and found nrl training to hard.

Sad thing is even if he does nothing next 3 years he’ll be on top dollars(by real world standards) so what motivation does he have to get off the PlayStation and put down the kfc.

Have a look at blokes like Haas and Hynes who grew up in real crap holes and they don’t run off and cry.

Talks about Myles Martin signing for Canberra - says he played for NSW under 19s and captained SG Ball to a GF last year and the Knights tried to re-sign him last year, but he had off season surgery on a leg and hasn't progressed as hoped this year, so only "lukewarm" interest in him this year.

Says Maps might revive his career with best out for "up to 6 weeks" (4 weeks is what the club has said). Also says moving Lucas to centre is another way it could go.

Says O'Brien wants to keep Armstrong and hopes he will show loyalty to the club that gave him a shot - implys money is tight.

Says Ponga is targeting a July 20th v Broncos return and a showdown against Reece Walsh.

Pretty cool to think that if ponga makes it back for round 20 that we need three wins to still be in the 8.

We have 2 byes and 6 games.

H-Dogs
A-Storms
H-Panthers
H-Eels
A-Canberra
A-Sea eagles

Can see us winning 3 for sure and then putting Armstrong to tualas wing for ponga
