The Knicks are going to be a handful; they're also going to be fresh. Looking forward to the championship series. It should be a good one.
 
They're really good. Of the teams remaining they execute what they want to do on offence the best. People projecting an automatic win for whoever wins in the West are kidding themselves.

Between Mitchell and Mobley, this is not a pairing that works. Either side of the ball. I think they just need to retool with only one or the either. Mitchell can get 35% July 2027. Mobley's will get worse with time. Harden has a player option. Think the wait till be on that one.
 
It's hard to totally blow it up because they burned too many assets already so they'd want to retool.

I really like Mobley. I think he's an elite #2 on a contender. Donovan to me is a flawed #1. I would be moving Mitchell before it's too late and seeing whether I can get better on-ball creation out of the moves I make. Whether it's moving Mitchell to potentially get Giannis, or moving Mitchell as part of some other moves to hopefully make them better in aggregate.

Harden they're kind of stuck with but I reckon they could get him to renegotiate a reduced amount and extend. Sort of like what Chris Paul did at the Suns.
 
Yeah Mitchell could be easier to offload in the shorter term. Harden has a player option for the 2026-27 season that he can opt out of that may help them. I am leaning to him opting out to get himself another payday like a 2yr deal with a bit over 50m each year. We'll see.
 
Good to see Jason Kidd sticking to his guns and making the Mavs pay him out. Fancy trading away the franchise's best assets for next to nothing and then blaming the coach. They were so lucky they jagged Cooper Flagg in the draft.

Unless they get another head coaching job which would then offset some money, it is unlikely they wouldn't get paid out what they are owed. For coaches with less money and time on their deals like Mosely who got the New Orleans role it's probably okay.

The Suns and Bucks are probably two good examples of guys who have multiple fired coaches on their payroll. The worst one is probably that Pistons/Monty Williams deal.
 
Kidd, who surely can't be held to blame for the situation the Mavs are in, having made two of the worst trades in NBA history (Brunson, Doncic), is apparently taking an advisory role and not seeking a head coaching role, from the report I saw, so he gets paid the full $40m owed on the rest of his contract
 
LA Times report (paywalled) suggests he only knew at the "11th hour". Not sure he could have done much except push the company line if that's the case.
 
I think after Luka stonewalling Kidd made me think it was plausible that Kidd may have known and been okay with it. How okay with it? Getting more then what they did for starters lol. Kidd and Nico were also pretty close as well. But if you believe Bucks fans he also wants to take President of Basketball Operations jobs at teams like the Bucks etc.

Ideally, Dumont should have been the one to be the first to take accountability as the top man like the new Suns owner and then fire Nico for his failure in suggesting the trade to him as an internal matter. But Dumont is not made of that stuff, clearly. But I guess the difference is Dumont doesn't want anything to do with basketball, hence why Masai is alternate governor, his MIL made him the owner and the team was so good and he attributed that to Nico. Nico sweet talked him into pushing Cuban out and he listened because he just raised a WCF trophy.
Now they're all gone lol.

As it was mentioned earlier though, a lot of the Mavs issues were pointed towards Nico. Not just the move, but the stuff with the medical staff, getting offside with long term loyal staffers and eventually letting them go etc. All related to the power struggle within the organisation

Always gotta hire Spurs assistant coaches, his name got into "more" coaching rumours once Spurs established as ahead of the curve. By using defense. As the season finished, it then became a high possibility that Sweeney will be a one and done for Spurs.

But have to note that his time in Mavericks included that 2024 Finals run. Where they realise the league quietly letting physicality back in defense. And then correctly used it. Aside from innovating by hiding Doncic and Irving both as low man in a zone defense. With Washington Gafford Jones Jr up top.

Smart stuff.

Coaches steal off each other. But to copy that zone from Spoelstra and then implement was good. iirc something like Adebayo Butler Tucker up top with Lowry and another Heat player down low.
 
Holmgren on rookie contract doing these. Fine. Next season on a max contract, he really needs to level up. Else he's just Mobley.

Today was not a good day for him.
 
That’s honestly really rough on Mobley who’s mostly been very good in the playoffs, his crime is mostly just not being prime Tim Duncan or KG good like people hoped. He was like 17/8/4 on good efficiency & easily their best guy on defence (2.7 stocks per game I think) with some timely buckets in big games. So more like post-prime Duncan.

Chet just sucks, he’s a complete *****, and does nothing if there’s any intensity in the game at all. Appreciate the no show though buddy! Go Spurs Go!
 
Yeah fair but even Mobley’s price is going to go up as well. And you can never expect him to have some of these bad games Chet’s having.
On the Thunder very interesting to see if Presti panics and potentially makes a move for a big name player available to be traded in the offseason.
But then they also have to find a way to keep Hart, otherwise bigs will feast on Chet.
Somehow Presti will find a way to get Walker Kessler all else heh
 
KAT and his spacing is the wild card of the series. His foul trouble will also be through the roof if he’s facing Wemby on both ends of floor. Mitchell Robinson can’t guard Wemby. It will be OG and Mikal then I think. They are gonna study how OKC put Caruso on Wemby for the next few days.

On the flip side I think Wemby may not be guarding KAT he’ll be guarding Hart or OG, roaming the paint. They’ll live with KAT taking 3s if he gets hot they’ll press up slightly. Brunson is going to have a tough time...we just saw how they did Shai. Brunson is a baller but he’s smaller than Shai and there’s some physical limits there.

The other will be Mikal. He's has been very up and down if he can channel his best version assuming he’ll see the spurs 4th or 5th worst defender. He gets hot from 3 like Caruso now they can’t keep him open and unlike Caruso Mikal can self create to a certain extent and live in the mid range. Mikal is a very very up and down player so that's what makes it interesting.

Expect a high intensity G1 like we saw last year and these WCF, Let the fun begin!
