He's more than likely well past it by now, but David Tua is fighting Alexander Ustinov on Saturday night over here, so thought it'd be a opportune time to start up a boxing thread (don't think there already is one).

Sky tv has had a specialist David Tua channel in the lead up to the fight showing all his old fights, they've been so good to flick on and watch a couple at a time of. He was an excellent fighter in his day! At almost 41 you'd say it's more than likely over, but I guess stranger things have happened.

Ustinov is humungous though, and Tua's fight against Lennox Lewis is always in the back of your mind ...

reports are tua will weigh in at approx 108-110kg for this fight the Tuaman has dropped nearly 40kg's for this fight and is giving up alot of height and reach advantage to his 6'7 oppenent.

That's an amazing weight, I've been wondering what it would be. Is that too light though? I'm guessing it would have been a long long time since he's been in that vicinity.

I think he can win, he just has to stay busy thoughout the fight with body shots ... amount of punches thrown always seems to have been his problem when he's come up against the really good boxers.

also you really gotta feel for David Tua most people don't know he went from a multi-millionare to bankrupt a regular Mike Tyson story, his manager cheated him and stole a lot of his money and some of his investments went bust and when that happened his wife left him and took the rest and what he owed forced him to go bankrupt he end up starting a gym which he has been living and sleeping in and its not very pretty, basically a garage with some amentities and a boxing ring with bags and training equipment. I for one really hope he beats Alexander Ustinov as he is ranked 32 nd in the world and would really put tua in the mix for some big money fights I don't care if he never gets back to his his glory days he's 41 years old and that's behind him now I just hate to see a champion knocked down so many times, And for all he has accomplished have nothing to show for it ... KNOCK HIM OUT TUAMAN

Anthony Mundine's Boxa Bar in Hurstville firebombed in overnight attack

A BAR owned by controversial boxer Anthony Mundine has been destroyed in an overnight fire bombing.

Police are investigating if the incident and will interview Mundine this afternoon.

The Boxa Bar coffee shop in Hurstville was a known hangout for Mundine and his associates and had most of his memorabilia on the walls.

“The police are onto it and I’m meeting them this afternoon,” a shocked Mundine told The Daily Telegraph.

“I’ve got ideas but I don’t want to assume or speculate.”

Asked if he was frightened: “At the end of the day god is the greatest.I fear god. I don’t fear anything else.

“You do bad, it will come back to bite you. God takes care of that.”

He says he is unsure if the bombing related to his upcoming fight with Shane Mosley on November 27.

Mosley arrived back in Australia today after skipper the country three weeks ago when his payments could not be guaranteed.

“The timing makes you wonder what all this is about,” he said.

They are saying Tua looks as good as when he fought Shane Cameron a few years ago, and he was his old self in that fight, smashing Cameron into the middle of next week.

Since then he had the marriage break up and a terrible contract for three fights which again halted all momentum.

I agree, I just hope he gets something out of his time in boxing by the end. He deserves it ... if not for all the management issues and court cases I think he would have been world heavyweight champ at some stage for sure. :(

just seen a interview with unistov promoter who also manages the klitstkos, he has said if david tua gets a Ko win it will almost certainly give him a title shot as he is still a big name in europe

Jeff Fenech questioned over firebombing of Anthony Mundine's cafe

Australia's greatest boxer Jeff Fenech has been questioned by arson squad police over the fire-bomb that destroyed bitter rival Anthony Mundine's Boxa cafe.

Fenech recently lost the $460,000 he personally invested on Mundine's cancelled fight with US boxing legend Shane Mosley.

He told The Daily Telegraph last night he was not surprised when police phoned him at midday yesterday to establish his whereabouts in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The fire bomb exploded at 3am, destroying the premises and Mundine's treasured 20-year collection of rugby league and boxing memorabilia.

"A guy from the arson squad rang me," Fenech said, "I just told him I was in bed when it happened.

"I'm just a happily married guy with three beautiful children.

"I knew it had to happen (the police phone call) after what's been said between us in the papers and in the media.

"They've got to do their job. I'm all good with that. Been there, done that."

He admits he is still disappointed that Mundine recently said he didn't care Fenech had lost his money on the last fight.

"He said he didn't care and that was wrong and total rubbish and disrespect. Hurtful and classless."That's what I was angry about - not that the fight got called off.

"I feel really bad about the fire bombing. I honestly do."Anyone who's worked hard to establish a business shouldn't lose it like that. It's bloody terrible.

"I hope the police sort it out."

Mundine was still shaken by the incident and counting the costs yesterday after it was revealed the cafe or its contents were not insured.

"It's hard when I'm trying to prepare properly for a fight," he said.

"I'll be seeing the police again on Monday to try to get more information."

The tua bout was ok at best, Tua lost just about every round and never looked threatening but never looked like being hurt, He just just bit of more than he could handle in Alexander Unistov a highly ranked world rated fighter when tua has had such a long lay off, In saying that I don't think Tua's career's over he showed he still has it for such a long lay off, he showed some glimpses of his power but the much taller fighter kept him at bay, tua never looked tired at all during the fight....as for lauren eagle ( the known **** of aussie sport) she beat a kiwi, but I rekon chick who she had beaten twice before woop dee doo ... goota feel for todd carney sticking his knob in that he must have low standards in the boxing forums ive read some bad **** about her

Tua just doesn't have it in him anymore, I think his retirement is for the best. Hopefully he got a decent payday out of last night! Such a shame he lost some of his best years to legal battles.

NEW Zealand boxer Daniel McKinnon has undergone emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries after losing to compatriot Robert Berridge in a WBO Oriental light-heavyweight title fight on Saturday.

The 30-year-old McKinnon was listed in a serious but stable condition in Hamilton's Waikato Hospital after what observers called a brutal bout in which both he and Berridge were knocked down.

Berridge won by a technical knockout in the 10th round.

McKinnon complained of head pain about 15 minutes after the fight and was rushed to hospital where doctors operated immediately.

His manager, Ken Reinsfield, said McKinnon's condition improved after surgery "but he is not out of the woods. He's doing better this morning than he was last night."

Now we have to listen to this tosser run around bragging and saying he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather...

Part of me wishes Floyd did fight him, It would be the worst beatdown in boxing history...
