I wonder how much he will be able to get out of a guy like Mullen ... Mullen just constantly chokes under pressure ... how can that be coached out?

Sau I think he will have an impact on, with a few tips and changes to the way he plays, he will improve massively.

Honestly, I think the new players he has recruited will have more effect than anything else though.

I think Matty Johns at the start of the season showed that he could help Mullen out. He probably needs somebody constantly booting him from behind, but I don't know if Bennett is the answer to Mullen. Richie, Tui, Hilder, Costigan and S'au are probably to reap a lot of the benefits. Players who show a lot of potential but may at times lose themselves in the team structure (or lack thereof). Once they start getting ball in a structured, predictable manner then there's no telling what they could achieve. Now take somebody like McManus or Edwards who will probably see less change in their games seeing as they seem to be very consistent and comfortable in their roles at the moment. McManus just bringing the ball up from our half soemtimes and at others just sitting on the wing, and Eddy hitting up the middle and making crunching tackles.

Costigan played finals series under Wayne at prop. Considering we have Houston, Taia and Hilder on deck... I don't see how Nev wouldn't be considered in the props rotation.

Costigan only played front row because because Dan Hunt was injured and the Saints had no front rowers and 27 quality backrowers to step into his place (Creagh, Scott, J Smith, Prior, Young).

You can write your own ticket on him playing prop next year unless injuries strike (touch wood).

If everyone is healthy I say the four props will come from Snowden/Tui/Fa'aoso/Tetevano/Cutherbertson/Edwards.

Bennett still had Merrin, Weyman, Saffy, Green, Greenfield, Prior...

Hunt got injured in round 11, Costigans first game at prop wasnt until round 22.

Prior played front row directly after Hunt got injured, Jermemy Smith played front row, and Costigan stayed second row in the rounds in between.

He only moved into the front row to accomodate Gasnier as Scott had to play somewhere.

But we're not exactly flush with edge backrowers now, are we? Ciraldo getting a gig for most of the year would indicate that, and he's leaving.

Taia (if his comeback goes OK), Houston (although better in the middle), Costigan, and that's it.
I guess you could count Tetevano, but time will tell what they see his future as.

Adding to that, the rumours about Cutherbertson, another prop, won't go away so Costigan playing up front just isn't happening.

11. Taia
12. Costigan
13. Houston

Lock it in.

11 Taia
12 Houston
13 Hilder??

or

11 Taia
12 houston
13 Edwards

I think Bennett will play Costigan in FRF, Sqaud i expect is
1 Boyd 2 McManus 3 Sau 4 Tahu 5 Uate 6 Mullen 7 gidley 8 Snowden 9 Buderus 10 Costigan 11 Taia 12 Houston 13 Hilder 14 Tuimavave 15 Faaoso 16 Edwards 17 cuthbertson/Stig

Personally I think Houston may play front row, but definitely not Costigan. That was a once off thing for Bennett, like Berrigan at hooker at the end of 2006.

A voice of reason.

Taia, Costigan and Houston are our three best backrowers by the length of the straight.
I can't see any scenario, bar injury, where they don't all start in the backrow in Round 1 next year.

I don't think we will see either Houston or Costigan in the front row next year. I'm with slotmachine, the backrow we will see is:

11. Taia
12. Costigan
13. Houston

The only reason I'd have Hilder in at lock is to keep him off the bench. It's likely we will have Stig/Wes/Tahu/Buderus on the bench also, I don't see the value of Hilder also being there when he provides little attacking impact and his huge workrate would be wasted. I think he has to play lock or not play at all, and the only way to fit him in there is to play Costigan/Houston in the front row.

8. Snowden
10. Houston/Costigan
11. Costigan/Houston
12. Taia
13. Hilder

14. Edwards
15. Tui
16. Faas

Stone hinted in the paper today Gidley will be playing halves next year so the money is on Hilder playing like a Dean Young clone, a bit of hooker and a bit of back row.

I can see Buderus starting, Hilder comes on as hooker, then moves to lock when someone in the back row needs a breather.

Yeah thats where i think he will play as well. As much as i'd like to see Gidley be given some time at Hooker i can See it happening unless Stig is on the bench. Which would mean Hilder would play 2RF/Lock with Gids and Buderus Sharing the Hooker position. Can't see that happening though!

Stone says many things, he is still yet to be right on a consistent basis. So i still expect Gidley to play some time at Hooker, either starting the game there or moving there midgame and I still expect to see either Buderus or Stig with the utlity bench spot. Buderus was never a certainty so WB would have been planning pre or with out Buderus. Not to mention it seems a little silly to buy a new hooker for only a year, only to have to buy yet another one the following year. And the dragons never had a Gidley to use. If they had, Young would never have played Hooker. So i expect a Buderus/Gidley 40/40 hooker combo this year leading into a Gidley at hooker for 70-80 the following year.

And while most of you will throw a hissy fit over this, I wouldn't have Costigan in the 17, and if the 2012 team was based off performances from this year he wouldn't make the team any how. Also can't see either Houston of Costigan being used as props and if we have Buderus/Stig off the bench Hilder i expect will start.

I see:

6. Gidley/ Stig
7. Mullen

8. Snowden
9. Buderus/Gidley
10. Tuimavave
11. Houston
12. Taia
13. Hilder

14. Stig/Buderus (UT)
15. Fa'aoso (FRF)
16. Edwards (SR/L)
17. Cuthbertson/Tetevano/Tolar (FRF)

You leave Costigan out based on 2011 form yet include Snowden who would not get a run with Central Charlestown the way he's been going.

If central charlestown had the remotest chance of Snowden playing for them they would be jizzing with excitement and would welcome him with open arms.

Added after 27 minutes:

I should also add that while Snowden hasn't being playing to his high level that he was the first 2/3 of the year he still has been playing solidly and doing his job at prop and been amoung the better players for the sharks who have been consistently bad for weeks now, all this while playing injuried. He has also consistently been better then both Costigan and all of our props all year, so yes he does make the team while Costigan doesn't.

Did you see the Cronulla game at home ? Plenty was made of a Snowden offload but he was outplayed by his Cronulla front rower and both of ours. I believe he has played with neck and back issues which hopefully will be right for next year but please don't tell me he was in form for the first 2/3 of the year. Has plenty of wraps and expectations to live up to next year I hope he can and does.

Yeah, thats one game and it was like the first or second game back from his injury and he has played far better the last month since that game. And it was arguably his worst game this year.Whats your point? Not to mention it is hardly a fair comparison. Doesn't excuse the fact Snowden has been playing better then both Costigan and our props while being injuried thorough the whole season as a whole. And he was playing great for the last 15 or so rounds, 24 rounds to date/ 15/24 is like 62% which is close enough to 2/3 for me. But if you want to be padantic 6/10.

You wouldnt have costigan in the team thank god your not the coach. Beaumonts right though Kades done nothing and allthough Costigan has made a few mistake (and who in our team hasnt even Kurt has the dropsies lately) when on the paddock hes been close to our best and from the games ive seen Kade play this year you cant compare them imo and Costigan will be the first forward picked next year .

Tuimavave and Kaufusi have outplayed Snowden in the last month or so (due to his neck and back problems) IMO, but no doubt a fit Snowden is one of the best young props in the comp, and would be a walk up start in any side.
