We already have 25 players signed for 2012 with 3 more waiting on a new contract (from current Contracts) with Strong rumours of Buderus joining the side next year. If we dont get rid of any of these 28(29) players I highly doubt we have anymore big name signing for the year. If I had to choose top 25 with Buderus id have to release 1.Ben Rogers (with Mullen/Stig/Roberts/Gidley/Boyd infront of him just taken up money) 2. McDonnell (I like him but better for him and us if we part ways 3.Karawana (thought he was already gone 4.kafusi gone

Gidley can cover injuries too all those you named, with Hilder on the bench to cover for Gidley

Ok, so why do you want LikiLiki in the centres over Tahu or Wes? Matu'Utia over McManus? And what about Tui and Fa'as?

I think Tahu is past his prime and coming of serious injury/personal issues. Walking out on State of Origin puts questions on his attitude IMO. I like Wes but feel LikiLiki could develop into a top class centre after being selected in the NYC team of the year and performing well in the NSW cup. I do prefer Matu'Utia over McManus. With regard to Tui and Fa'as I just decided in the team I would like to have i'd give some of the younger guys a crack instead. Cook especially who has been one of our best in NYC for years.

You do realise that guys like Likiliki, Sims and morseau are no where near FG quality players yet, even Cook who is the closest would be a 50/50 call and definitely not in a starting position. Not to mention with guys like McManus, Tahu, Tui, Tai, Faas and Costigan sitting out you have like 750 games and over a million dollars of talent and experience doing nothing. Plus those 4 guys dont come under the top 25 players so you'll have to eat up over half the 400k a year you get to spend on players outside the 25 playin them everyweek.

Just some things to think about

Luke46, i like your optimism about our young players, i'm very keen to see them in FG too, but at this point in time you can't have them in a starting 17 like that. Cook & Morseau are still in NYC, they will get some good game time in the NSW Cup next year. Maipele stil has another year in NYC too, Cook will make FG next year after toiling away against the men no doubt, off the bench a couple of games. Maipele is much farer off. On Likiliki & Mata'utia, Mata is a player capable of a starting position every week in my opinion, but Uate & McManus are the established wingers, both State of Origin reperesentatives too. Pete makes for great depth though. Liki has been pretty deplorable this year, he has been good in recent weeks mind you, probably coz he's just getting comfortable. Next year he'll have another year to improve & impress & he definately needs to, he comes off-contract at the end of 2012. He'll get there, but again just like Pete, he should make great depth.

Costigan played finals series under Wayne at prop. Considering we have Houston, Taia and Hilder on deck... I don't see how Nev wouldn't be considered in the props rotation.

I almost definitely think Tolar is on his way out.

I don't know why, but I feel that a guy like Tolar could really excel under Wayne. He is definately down the order at this stage, but I reckon once he gets a go he will impress under Bennett.

Not aimed at you NF, but there is an air of expectation around that Bennett is going to turn everyone into an international standard player. Mentioned in the Ben Rogers thread, as well as regarding the likes of Kaufusi, Paterson, Southern, De Gois et al magically becoming quality overnight. There are a number of statements such as "he will excel under Wayne" or "Wayne will get the best out of him". I know Bennett's record speaks for itself but is it realistic to expect him to turn all the players from honest toilers into superstars? What can he do to achieve this with every single player? I can understand the comment regarding guys like Mullo (just see Jamie Soward who I think has less natural ability than Jarrod) but I find it bizarre that this magical power of Bennett's can fix everyone.

Don't get me wrong, there is no doubt he will have a profound effect on not just the team, but the club as a whole. I am, as I know we all are, both excited and confident about next year. Wayne will have hopefully added/improved on the culture, belief and work ethic of the players and helped to make the club more professional both on and off the field.

It just seems that a lot of people have decided Wayne Bennett is the simple solution to all the issues at the club when that is not the case. Yes, in Wayne we can trust, but he is still mortal.
