State of Orgin 3, 2023

I wonder if Bradman was the youngest Knight to ever play origin at 21?
I'm sure some younger guys have played origin over the long history, but I can't think of a Knight who made the team very young.
Didn’t Joey debut for the Blues a few days before his 21st birthday? I suppose it was during the Super League era when a lot of the players were ineligible but still….

Did anyone else see the cross to the change room at halftime where Addo-Carr was in animated discussion with Best?
Best was sitting there, paying very close attention to what the fox was saying. It kind of looked like a school kid getting roused on by a teacher, but it was probably just a plan being put together.
Fox is an experienced rep player & a really smart footy player despite his happy go lucky persona. When he tells you something, you listen.

Bradman seemed to have a strong understanding with Cody and Fox right from the start, so that will definitely help his cause next season. Add Latrell to the mix at fullback and that’s a scary left edge.

JSaf was terrible to begin with but got better as the game went on.
Best was very good all game.
If only we had Cody Walker from game 1. I thought we had opportunities on Holmes edge in game 1 but we didn’t ice them but last night we did. Holmes was exploited badly.

Pretty disgusted to have my first origin with the boys destroyed by bigots. This isnt the end of this this though. Mark my words.
An overview of our experience last night for anyone interested:
We sat down in our seats just in time for the start of the pre-game show.
The first cab off the rank was an Aboriginal dance performance. We knew some of the performers and were familiar with the dance they were doing.
The lights had barely turned off when the bald man in the photo above turned loudly to everyone he was with and said something along the lines of “this is a joke. Get these people off here. What a #ing joke these people are.” He then proceeded to boo loudly for a large duration of the performance.
I have a name for this man and I will happily name and Shame once I have it confirmed.
Meanwhile my boys are looking to me. They can’t hear the singing. All they hear is the booing and this bald man abrupting about his thoughts on Aboriginal people continuously. My people. My kids people.
My kids repeatedly looked at me for action. I was by myself with two boys against a row of men.
Meanwhile people within this group, some further down the line that I did not see but with the group starting imitating the songs. Yelling out “Brrr brrr brr” and continuously laughing.
Making a mockery of the song and dance.
I must highlight that there was a blend of young adults and children out there performing. Grown men laughing and belittling children.

please share this post, have a look on the knights post / copy and post ..this is BS

That’s ****ing horrible CP, sorry you and your boys had to go through that. No room for that sort of rubbish in our game.

I’m sorry CP that you and your children were exposed to that disgusting behaviour. Unfortunately there is still a lot of racism towards Aborigines in Australia.

I think having Ivan Clearly in the box was a genius move. IMO we keep Freddy as the NSW coach, but we should be pushing to have Ivan as an assistant. Freddy brings the NSW Legend status for motivation, etc.

But have Ivan to help with with tactics like game plans and interchange. He should also be more involved in selections. Strong argument Ivan has been the best coach in the game for a few years now.

Unless massive form slump or injury no-brainer now Cody and Nathan Cleary in the halves. Hindsight a wonderful thing but easy to see Cody should have been picked for game one, probably be a different result.

NSW coach Brad Fittler is on target to become the longest-serving coach in Blues State of Origin history by being offered another 12 months at the helm of the state.

Yayyyyy. Can’t wait to deal with his garbage for another 12 months. Frothin’ at the mouth.

Yeah I think Fitler made some average selections and poor use of the bench. But you can’t deny the blues were cruelled by injuries. So I don’t think he is to blame for that.

Interesting part about Parr also.

"There’s also a strong push on to bring Newcastle’s director of football Peter Parr back into the fold as the Blues team manager which looks set to be given the green light."

Was reading an article on Roar that the eligibility rules are being looked at for Origin to allow Aussies who play for other Tier 1 nations to play too.

What do people think about that?

Do you reckon Hastings’ connection to Madge would get him a halves spot for NSW if he was eligible?

Which other players would get in either 17 if they changed the rules?

It would be a great change. It won't affect a huge amount of players, but for players like potentially Kalyn Ponga, qualifies for Origin because he was in Queensland before the age of 13, but with Kiwi parents and spent childhood in New Zealand, it will make representing NZ a possibility. I think he will stick with Australia, but there have been players over the years who have picked Australia purely to get the Origin cheque (James Tamou, for example).

Now tier 2 nations can play for their country and Origin, this rule primarily hurts the NZ team. To me it makes no difference to change it. Especially since internationals are now banned during the Origin period, so no player will ever have to choose which game they play.

Don't think Hastings is any chance though haha.

Another good example is Crossland ... he clearly wants to play for New Zealand (and would have already if not for injury), but wouldn't kill off his NSW chances by playing for them.

In an odd twist, I think the only way Crossland would ever be considered for SOO would be if he played for NZ and had a great game at that level.

Yeah I think Jacko made a very clear-headed and rational decision about his rep future by declaring for England. He just wouldn’t be within cooee of Origin, no matter how much Madge likes him, or even if we’re absolutely killing it in the new year and he’s playing great. There would always be a belief his playing style wouldn’t translate.

Interesting perspective….why do you think his playing style wouldn’t translate?
