So, where to now?

Ok so it's become obvious in the past couple of weeks that we have some problems with our current lineup (especially in the forwards), and I fear that a lot of the players we currently have may not perform nearly as well without Smith.

In my opinion what separates us from the very top teams is a quality halfback, centre and a prop (Cross is quality but he's never on the field).

With both Cross and Simmo coming off-contract next year, as well as a few lower paid players like Little Doogs off-contract this year, we should have a fairly decent amount of money to go into the player market with. I know that Newcastle has never been an attractive option for players, however now with Smithy leaving it may help things slightly.

Problem is however, is that there doesn't seem to be much coming off-contract in 2010 especially in these 3 positions.

Best would probably have to be Kimmorley, Luke Bailey and Brent Tate. However all of these are getting on in years and probably wouldn't be good options. We may even need to look to England?

What I'd like to see in 2011 (Cross, Simmo and Mad Dog to still be in the side for 2010 hopefully);

1. Gidley
2. Jimmy
3. Sau
4. centre
5. Uate/Vuna
6. Mullen
7. halfback
8. Tolar/Taufua
9. De Gois
10. prop
11. Houston
12. Taia
13. Hilder

14. Taufua/Tolar
15. Pato
16. Fass
17. Wicks

I know it's a little "forward happy", but I think that's what we're lacking badly at the moment.

The times I've seen Walsh play for Penrith, I haven't been to impressed. He doesn't have much imagination in attack. We're better off with Dureau!

I agree. Dureau hasn't been setting the world on fire, but he's still been better than Walsh imo.

If Dureau can get over his being injured all the time and play some consistent football, then I'm happy with him at halfback.

I'm way more concerned about centre and prop.

Totally agree. Hopefully Dureau will get more of a go next year.
Get Matt White or Kade Snowden back please!!!

I thought you were the person saying about Walsh, I was thinking, what?! But you are knights87, they are knights88 haha. Confusing!!!

Yeah, I just noticed there was a knights88...well, going on our names I am older and am female, Knights88 is male. Our views seem different so hopefully won't be too confusing in the future

I think there's also a newcastleknights1987 or something, but thankfully he is not around anymore haha (not that I disliked him, it would just be even more confusing).

We should use Vuna in the centres and keep Uate and McManus on the wing.

If Cross is injury free next year, i cant think of anyone better to replace him.

Nothing against Dureau but i think we should start looking into buying a more dominant halfback, it will let Mullen play his natural game at 5/8

On his day, Dureau can have a great game. He didn't play too badly against Manly. He just needs to get over his injury worries though. He's stating to get injury prone.

The problem with Dureau is that he doesn't lead the team like Mullen does. Usually Dureau at the start of the game gets really involved kicking 40/20s, calling for the ball etc but later on in the game he just starts to sort of hide in a shell and let Mullen take over.

I'm still interested in 2009 & you guys are looking at 2011. Slow down, I'm sure a few guys will appear, show form, lose form, get injured, etc, in the next 12 months.
