Many people have said that Manly and Parramatta should get the 2007 and 2009 premierships respectively, as they were both the runners-up in those seasons.

An example used has been that of when a gold medal winning athlete is caught cheating (using drugs), the gold medal goes to whoever came second.

To me, Melbourne will always be the Premiers for seasons 2007 and 2009.

What is your opinion?

I'd definitely award it to Parra and Manly.

Especially Parra, it was a controversial loss anyway, thanks to some shocking refereeing at a key moment. No doubt they were the second best side that season.

Brisbane in 2008 lost in the semis to a last second Melbourne try ... they are entitled to feel very ripped off as well.

No, it should just say that Melbourne won them, but were stripped of them as a result of these events. There are too many ifs and buts regarding what could have happened if Melbourne didn't do what they did. It's ridiculous to think that the NRL would award these premierships to those clubs as a result of this. Would you really want to be awarded a premiership a few years later after the game? It'll always be a tarnished "victory" and wouldn't really count for much in my opinion.

Plus, in the Olympics or cycling, generally it's a case of the person who was caught cheating was just faster than the other person. It's not a case of someone being a winner, and someone being a loser.

no way ...... leave it blank

It's like saying take the 1933 premiership off Newtown because they only had one player on the boat to England for the kangaroo tour & give it to Western Suburbs because they where unbeaten until the touring party left!!!!

Well a guy like Nathan Cayless who's played his whole career in the hope of winning a grand final, only to have his best chance ruined by a club of cheats, might disagree with you.

There's gonna be some pretty spicey Melbourne games this season!

I'm sure he would, but would he really want his only premiership to be one that was handed to them, as opposed to truly won on the day? I don't think so...

What I think will be the most interesting thing is the way the Melbourne players respond.

I think I might head out to the next Storm match in Sydney, it will surely be interesting.

Edit: Haha.... just had a look at when the Storm were next in Sydney, it's against Parra at Parra Stadium. I definitely do want to go see that match...

No, because the way i see it, if melbourne didn't have those players, they may not have won certain games and other teams may have been in a better position going into the finals, it doesn't just affect manly, parra and the storm, it affects every single team in the comp and every single game the storm have played since they decided the fun way to win championships was to cheat, they have to realise their actions has hurt everyone, every team, every player in the game, every fan of the game

Nope... they have a right to feel ripped off, but seriously build a bridge... what if they did award it to them? Are the going to celebrate after a game at Parra Stadium?

It wouldn't be the same... and it's not so much the title 'Premiers 2009' but all the $$$ the Storm accumulated through coperate sponsors jumping on board etc after the big wins.

So no I think they should just cop it.

While the two clubs are entitled to feel very ripped off, i dont think it should be awarded to them.

Too many variable factors (other teams would then feel they should have been avoided points, could have made the 8 etc) It would just get too complicated.. NRL did the right thing is that respect.

as big a soft spot i have for parra and i was a bit bummed they didnt win last year i dont think the preimerships should be given to manly and parra. most people have mentioned it in posts but taking manly out means another team woulda been in the 8...therefore maybe in the grandfinal. what about teams that lost to melbourne and missed out on finals footy by just one game. i think there are too many factors to even consider given manly and parra preimerships. i quiet like what Paul Osborne said tonight whilst parra would like the preimership there would be the sides that game in 9th place that could stand up and say they coulda made it to the grandfinal and say melbourne werent there we wouldnt have played the bulldogs in round 1 of the finals...so its not just as simply as saying 'because u were the other team in the grandfinal here u go' like it is as simply as saying 'u came second in that race u were the next fastest in the rest of the field there for u get gold' at the olympics

i think im definetly going to go to parra v storm i am looking forward to getting out there and giving the storm players and fans crap

Like others of said what would it really mean to Parra and Manly? I also think the players wouldn't feel like it was a Premiership truly won, they wont get to celebrate and make the money that comes along with it.

What about Cronulla/Brisbane the sides beaten by Melbourne in the Prelim Finals of those 2 years? What about Newcastle that missed out on the 8 by one win? Every team in the comp has a claim that they were cheated, not just the 2 beaten Grand Finalists

i have eels fans in my family and they said that it wouldn't be the same as actually winning it

As a manly fan I dont think we should, or will be handled the 2007 Premiership. But this hurts and I think all Manly fans feel robbed. In 2007, we were something like 6 points ahead of thrid. It was:

Melbourne
Manly

Daylight

Cowboys

Having the premiership awarded to us won't give us the money that we would have got for winning that grand final through merchandose, sponsorship, membership and the $500 000 prize. Not to mention the $100 000 Minor Premiership prizes from 2007 and 2008.

There is no certainty we would have won the Premiership, another team could have beaten us just like the Dogs and Knights in 95 and 97. But all that can be said in certain, we were robbed of a chance to rightfully win that competition due to the Storm's cheating. The same chance the Roosters were given in 2002. The chance to win all the money involved, and in reality, money which could keep help our club afloat or perhaps the upgrade of Brookvale Oval.

I hate Melbourne Storm, not for stealing a premiership, but our chance of having a fair shot at one.

No way should Manly, Parra get the premiership although it'd hurt so bad to be one of their fans.

Sure Manly were robbed of a fair shot at the Premiership, but so was every other club in that top 8 remember

Well, I thought the loser in the GF gets the title of "runners up" meaning if the winners are not aloud the premiership it would then go to them...is that not what runner means? Dont get me wrong though, i dont think they should recieve the premierships.

Yea, but then all the teams in the 8 could begin with IF's and BUT's. Best left alone as 'stripped' IMO.
