Should Gidley retire?

If the injury is going to take that long to recover from, then I agree. However, no need to rush it ... not like there's anyone decent left to sign for next year anyway.
 
if its a 12 month injury which has been mentioned as a possibility then yeah he should retire. That at least gives us a chance too sign someone decent to play Hooker
 
I suggested like 3 weeks before Gids was due back, that if he has another serious injury he should retire. Ever since I started watching the game properly since 09, Gids has been my favourite player. But these injuries are holding the team back :(. He has to call it quits.
 
So many off contract Hookers at the moment if gidleys injury is ongoing next season Kurt Baptise, Beau Falloon, John Morris, Joel Romolo, Matt Keating, Nathan Smith, Masada Iosefa, Nafe Seluini, Alehana Mara but would love to see my cousin Anthony Mitchell here
 
nafe seluini manager is desperate he is going to wyong at this stage yes bloody wyong...cant get a gig ...sign him up hes very cheap and can play.
 
injured = clysdale, gower, gidley all for this year

waddell can't be used again i dont think we have gone over the cap??

we are in strife thats for sure either nev or hilder for the semis
 
According to The Lurker at Sportal.com.au there is a rumour that a well known player is set to announce a shock retirement in the coming weeks, they haven't told how serious the injury is but if it is Gidley. Then we would free some money up.

Gee, talk about speculation. There is nothing in what the lurker said to indicate kurt gidley is going to retire. This will just be one of those broad statements where; someone will decide to pull the pin and the lurker will claim credit for calling it early.
 
I could think of about 30 players that I wouldn't be surprised if they retired during the off season, I doubt Kurt will be one of them though.
 
Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Gidley did pull the pin. If the injury is as serious as some reports suggest then I can see him hanging up the boots after a couple of injury riddled seasons. He isn't getting any younger and the way he played when he was younger is now catching up with him.
 
As bad as it sounds it wouldn't bother me if he did pull the pin HOWEVER I highly doubt it's him. He'd want to go out on his own terms for starters and we are quite short for hookers next year so I don't think he'd leave the club short either.
 
Yeah you could understand if he did retire if the injury was severe enough but I really don't think he'll just give up on his recovery and nothing has suggested it's extremely bad, even if he makes it back mid way through next year if worse comes to worst he's the type of player who'll do everything he can to still get back into the side and help out the team knowing we're short on hookers and have lost the leadership of Buderus. I can't see it happening but if he does get another bad injury throughout 2014 it'll become highly likely.

It's probably someone like Moimoi.

Agreed. He's be short odds to come back mid-season next year, play for six weeks, then do something else and be out for the rest of the season.
 
He's been such a great servant for the Knights over the years so you'd think he's earned the rite to leave on his own terms, at this point.

If he'd done another shoulder then maybe but if he can get his foot back to 100% and the rest if his body is right to go then he should definitely play on.

I think people (especially Knights supporters) should show this guy more respect! He's only 31 ffs
 
His shoulders have been fine since he finally had the necessary surgery, he's just been unlucky with 2 foot injuries now, he can't catch a break the poor guy. There's no way I want him to retire yet but when he decides to we'll know it's when he has nothing left to give, I believe he'll always put the team before himself.
