Should Gidley retire?

It seems to me over the past couple of years, Kurt has been eating up what I can only assume to be a large amount of our salary cap but playing very little game time in return. I understand it's not really his fault if he's injured, but considering he does seem very injury-prone lately, I'm wondering if we should be looking to give the money to a decent halfback instead? I'm not sure who...does anyone know who the guns in NYC are that could step up to NRL? Or else from NSW/Qld Cups? As there doesn't seem to be many top line NRL halfbacks available right now.

Or maybe try to secure Cam Smith from the Storm a year early? LOL

Gidley should retire

Same as I've been saying for over a year - because he isn't a big guy and because he has played the game really hard over his career, his body has too many miles on the clock.
I don't even know what his latest injury is yet, but I know we'll only get a few games out of him a season for the rest of his current contract and the best thing he could do for the club is to retire and let us spend the money on a hooker for next season.
The club should give him the same deal as Ben Rogers - a well paid job for a few years so he doesn't lose out by retiring halfway through a contract.

Give him next season, if it's the same as the last two then move him on from the last year of his contract.

He doesn't earn his money in terms of games played, or coming off the bench.

But I don't like saying any of that, and it was horrible to see him injured last night. :( I'd much rather see him fit and making a big contribution each week.

Fairly ominous that nothing has been released about the injury.

If it's a bad break like Jaral Yow Yeh he'll struggle to get back even if he wants to.

It's too late to find a hooker for 2014 so if he can potentially offer something next year he should try to get back.

Waddell/Roberts/Clydesdale are the only options on the books, a bit scary really.

2015 is a different story.

I think it's time to retire, comes a time when he has to accept that he has to think about life after football as well, we all know he gives his all for the team, and he will always be respected for that, but I'm sure he and his bro and probably people like bedsy as well will have some serious chats over the coming months.

I feel so sorry for the guy. If he had stayed at fullback the last few seasons then he would more than likely of played alot more. But he needs a good rest and see what next season brings. I don't think he should continue at hooker/half next season. It's to much for him.

Needs a good rest? He missed all of last year.

Team point of view next year is we need him but only because our lack of hooker options but otherwise he's taking up too much cap for what he's delivering.

One more serious injury and that's it for him I'm afraid. He deserves to finish his career on his own terms but I'm afraid he won't get the chance to do it.

For a player on the bucks he's on "tries his guts out", "loves the Club", "can play anywhere" and "he's a great bloke" don't cut it. Have a talk to him in private with respect and suggest that now is the right time to pull up stumps. Use the money to extend and upgrade Bj, Gagai and Toka's contracts.

Exactly the reason why you needed to go after an experienced hooker for next year. Should of went after Nathen Friend the moment the Warriors said he wasn't in their plans imo. Now they have back peddled and signed Friend up.

It's a shame for Gidley about these last couple years. His body just seems worn out. At his peek he was the ironman of the comp but he is now feeling the effects of that very high workrate over several seasons of NRL.

I still think he has a fair bit to offer. He's looked good at hooker at times this year, so if the injury isn't too serious a full off season training at hooker could help develop into a quality dummy half. I've been reading some of the posts on LU and people are happy he's injured and hope he retires, total ****ers.

Depends what this injury is, if he had done his shoulder again, I would say yes. But last night was just an unfortunate injury that happens.

I wouldn't say I'm happy he's injured, but I think he needs to consider what the best thing for the club is at that, IMO, is to retire.

Perhaps he can play another year with the hooker duties rotated between him and Gower, and one of the young guys (Adams?) in (likely) case of injury. Then try to sign Cam Smith for 2015.

This is a total accident, this wasn't his body giving up his foot got caught in the ground, if it was his shoulder i would say yes..

fact of the matter is he deserves to win a comp more than most players that play this sport...

We do not have a hooker for next year, the amount of time he has missed I'm sure he can compete like mad dog did!

Speedy recovery and well wishes

Just an update from the Knights that he left hospital & flew home with the team today. Now don't get me wrong I'm no doctor and it could still be very serious but if it was an emergency serious ie quick surgery would he be joining his team mates on a flight home?

Like a broken ankle or leg? Cant say I've ever had one to determine how it all works

Could be torn ligaments, which is best case... Gidley cant afford a long term 6 month rehab.
