Sack Adam O’Brien

Im yet to see a proven upgrade on aob on the market? Maybe its not the best idea to roll the dice on an unknown coach at the same time your turning your roster upside down, next year is another building year maybe we keeping our powder dry until 2027
The 'experienced' coaching market is pretty thin unfortunately. Recent success has been found in the untried e.g. Andrew Webster / Fitzgibbon.

The proposition for clubs isn't 'can we guarantee an upgrade' its usually 'how can we freshen things up'

Im suggesting change for the sake of growth. That's not to say growth is guaranteed by change. But it at least provides for the opportunity for growth, which is something we should be taking steps towards.

You're once again assuming that the mitigating circumstances around the roster, injury etc have not be significant in our performance this year. Just because you don't like the coach doesn't make those things go away, nor does changing the coach automatically provide for the "opportunity for growth" . If that were true we could just hire Anthony Griffin tomorrow.

There's also no reason to assume an AOB coached side with a better list and far less of our cap in reserve grade and (hopefully) not injured won't be back in finals contention.

It's a massive assumption that a new coach is the solution especially when It's a crap shoot with no clear successor.

All the credentialed coaches and the ones whose teams are going well are locked in. So it's either a sacked former head coach looking for redemption or a rookie (which is how we got AOB in the first place).

Yes, the club is in the process of refreshing other staff & players that's a good point. But the club also seems to be doing it with a purpose and a plan as opposed to the club's former model of moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

I'd be happy for the club to move on AOB but not without a clear plan and high expectation of an improved performance.

Not a good time to go for an unknown coach, I agree. But for a replacement in general, if the roster is getting a total overhaul, then I don’t think there’s a better time to bring in a new coach. Start everything from scratch!

I suppose the other side of that is a new coach coming in is going to really struggle to get the roster he wants given we’ve just overhauled it. Might be a reason they’ve earmarked Green (he’s less likely to want to make sweeping changes) even though his record doesn’t suggest he deserves to be close to a head coach role.

I make no such assumptions.

Im appealing to unknown probability that comes with changing the coach. Be it positive or negative. Totally comfortable if the new coach isnt an improvement, if we still suck, and remain as lacklustre and often embarrassing as we currently are, then there's very little lost in the change, is there?

Some might make the argument that 'we've made the finals 4 times' etc, in a void, to someone who hasnt watched us play over the last 6 years, that might sound like a strong argument for keeping the coach. And its true, we've had injuries, but which teams havent? After 6 years, these variables have less to do with luck than we as Knights fans might like to believe.

And from where Im standing, even if theres a slight chance of improvement under a new coach, it is imperative that we chase those odds, however small. Because we're here to TRY to win a comp. What OB has presided over is defined as managed stagnation, perhaps even managed decline.

OB is a deadened
This is 100% where I'm at too. Happy to run the risk, we could strike gold. Another year of this crap otherwise.

Loving reading how there isn't a better option out there, like people on here categorically can rule out all coaching prospects given their experience evaluating NRL head coaches.

And people put too much faith in what coaches/players/officials say in media interviews. As has been said, they aren't going to sit there and tell the truth. Like AOB saying he has no idea on Dom Young joining, next minute.

It's all smoke and mirrors.

He may stay, in which case I sincerely wish him well at the next season. If he is punted, lets make the right call on his replacement.

One thing I do know, is I don't want to watch another first half of an NRL season where we squander the start, look like we have not trained all pre-season, and play like we aren't allowed to risk anything out of fear of a mistake so we can "get in the grind".

As it is I'm seriously considering my membership next season and what value I get from it.

Its completely ****ing ridiculous 😂

And also bewildering, like, it has been 6 years. SIX years. You need a 7th year to really know for certain this time?

I don't own a time machine, but Ill tell you how next season with OB will go. Absolute highest finish on the ladder will be 6th. Most likely 8-10th. If we make finals, we'll get drilled first week. And based on historical record, that's being generous.

Should we go an 8th year to see if it changes???

If AOB stays nothing is going to change, we will still be muddling around the bottom of the ladder. I can't see why people think we are going to improve with him at the helm, he's had six years.
and he's made finals for 4 of those 6 seasons, it hasn't been all that bad. Have we really had a 7 or 6 in this whole time that is genuinely a top 4/8 half?? There's a lot of clubs who have done a lot worse in the past 6 seasons

If we look like we are building and improving, then by all means keep him. But we dont. We've had 6 years of fairly similar results even with different players coming and going. Nothing to suggest next year will be different. Tbh we look much better odds for a spoon than a premiership next year. We need change or we can expect the same results.

We can argue about this untill the cows come home but ultimately it's not going to have any impact on the decision Wests have to make.

I truly believe if the players didn't have belief in AOB he would have been punted by now. Maybe the players are the ones wanting him to stick around and making it difficult for Wests to cut him ?

Aob has had us going sideways since he arrived. He has luck go his way to get us to the finals more often then not.
No one can honestly say we look like we have improved as a team or a club since he has been here.
To top it off the bloke comes across as a flog, thats just bumbling his way through.
