Sack Adam O’Brien

AOB has to get some credit for the turnaround also. Can't kick him in the bum when we lose, and not give some credit when we win.

If the squad played like that second half more consistently, this thread doesn't exist.
Obi’s apology is graciously accepted.
Maybe it was a heat of the moment, emotional statement.
It takes a big person to apologise.
Done.
Let’s get on with the type of football the Knights played in the second half against Manly as the standard going forward.

Contesting Bombs is interesting - is that something we didn’t do in the first half but did in the second?
Its something we haven't done all year, or for many years, for that matter, that we clearly decided to do after Manly put three of the easiest try's on us, at which point, the boys clearly spat the dummy.

Could be wrong. Maybe OB is a genius coach and has been keeping this ostentatious style in the top draw for 6 years until now

I think the contesting bombs came down to Hunt himself deciding to contest it. I'm not convinced it was a team plan at all. One of his contested kicks KP has said there was no plan to kick for Hunt and he shanked the kick, Hunt contested for it and it lead to a try.

I don't think we can put the contested kicks down to the team going against AOB.

Kyle Mc contested a few kicks last season and wasn’t seen again…hopefully the same fate won’t befall Hunt.

So, I hope AOB realises we need to go into games with and attacking mind set almost straight away. The grind is not our go. There’s enough evidence this year when we open up the field we are more threatening. If we go back to AOB ball I’m back to supporting this thread name.

I actually don’t care if we lose games playing this way either.

AOB said they’d been working on contesting bombs with Hunt, because he’s really good at it. Based on what we’ve seen from getting line drop-outs back, you wouldn’t say we’ve had a player that’s good at it for a while.

Guys, it wasn't just 'contesting bombs' lol

Everything we did shifted almost in an instant, offloads, support play, targeting of the ruck, quick shifts early in sets and often in our own half. The contesting of kicks was just another item on the list of strange reversals of strategy.

Now, if OB is responsible for this change in approach, Id like to know why tf hes been persisting with whatever the hell our regular game strategy is? If we are capable of playing this fast and skilful brand of football, without some of our best players on the field, someone explain to me why OB would get to keep his job after that.

Im sincerely bewildered how anyone can see a rationale for defending the coach here

I don't think he's ever against it, I think he's massive (like most coaches) on hard work and earning the attacking option with good line speed and winning the ruck. Throwing it around when your not winning the advantage line or not holding the ball as has been our case this year wont help the team. In no shock, the times we have won this year is via holding the ball and expansive play to our edges and sharp cutting back inside.

Team has to respect the ball, Manly also came out with a horrendous mind set at half time, you won't get that from every team.

But agree, come out with high energy in attack and D, back up mistakes and go again.

Not to be downer but we probably also need to remember that Manly suddenly had a forward in the centres who was struggling massively which definitely helped Gags and KPP on that edge. We won’t get that every week either. But also **** it, we deserve some luck.

Sure but we also lost our one prop after five minutes, and our centre in the first half wasn’t exactly having a blinder, either.

In the end both sides had significant issues and we made it work better.

Oh nah I 100% agree and not saying Ben T was the reason we won…just that it will be harder next time.

I believe this was said after the game win?

I guess we can look forward to Hunt charging through contesting bombs several times per game from now on if this is true from AOB.

I'm looking forward to the next game against Roosters, see if we go back to endless grind, or start to play more expansive.

It will be very interesting how they play against the Roosters and whether they continue to play like they did in the second half or revert to the AOB signature style of boring one out hit ups and not contesting bombs.
We dont have to wait long huh. Just one more week to figure out if OB is actually a gun coach after 6 years of the same trash.

Unless we play exactly the way we did agaisnt Manly, the Roosters will ice us. Im not gullible enough to have any expectations heading into the Roosters game

I agree. We don’t have many meter eating forwards. Yardage from our outside backs and spreading the ball early is the go. Also - contesting bombs. 💣. Let the props defend.

I think AOB has been trying to create the culture of defence and high percentage football since he got here and we are seeing the affects of that in our defence which is pretty good 👍 unfortunately our attack has suffered significantly because of it. I think he is just relying on the players to be able to create something and then if it doesn't work back the defence, but for some reason our players havnt wanted to try their hand. Maybe our attacking coach needs to be looked at?

Just dont expect it from play one, don't be unrealistic with now no Frizell and two start forwards that if our top 17 were playing maybe one of them would be on the bench the other in Cup. Not a haze on jones or Crokes, love them both, but its depth and quality that is lacking. We'll have to play perfect football, gain the advantage, win the ruck and then spread the attack. Going side to side early Roosters will just watch us and defend the sideline.
