I was saying it in the pre-season, the top 17 is decent (a lot of the top liners aren't aiming up atm however) but the depth was simply not there. The roster management has let down the team in the last few years. I'm not even talking about Pearce either, that had to happen, just the wider squad. Someone was trying to say the depth was good because most of them played first-grade, how's that going. Browny had more success with roster management than the current staff.
 
Zammit is the guy I think is going pretty badly.
The good signings we talk about mostly seem to have been scouted by Alex McKinnon before he left.
Clifford and Tuala are probably all Zammit, but so were Shibasaki, Garrett Smith, Zane Camroux etc. Mapapalangi seems pretty good though.

Every recruitment guy gets talked up as the next Jack Gibson or Trent Robinson at spotting talent, but they all seem pretty hit or miss really.

The last great recruitment guy for us was David Waite I think - or maybe Robert Finch.

Alex McKinnon seems to have the knack of spotting talent in the raw, but I think he wants to do other things with his life right now.

Wrong. Shibasaki was at the club well before Zammit was.
 
Before round one I think bottom four was a fair assessment of our squad. Personally I don’t think Clifford is as good as some have said.

That all has to be factored in when judging the coach. Having said that I don’t think it’s looking good for him.

Clifford is an ok player but not good enough to shine in front of a pack that’s being dominated. Unfortunately with the Saifiti’s in their current form and the rest of the pack not being up to standard he’s really got no chance.
 
The attacking coach is Willie Peters and Blake Green is halves coach.

I think O’Brien micromanages a lot of everything we do though.

That was one of his traits I believe they said when we signed him. Seems like a great trait for an assistant coach, but for a head coach, maybe not so unless you're a RL genius.
 
The Roosters finished 5th last year with a halves combo of Drew Hutchison and an 18 year old who weighs 50kg. Cronulla are pushing for the top four with three fullbacks in their spine. Melbourne won a premiership with three fullbacks.

A better coach would be getting more out of the players we’ve got and wouldn’t need Adam Reynolds or whoever to come make them look good.

Not that you’re wrong but I would say ”Drew Hutchison and an 18 year old who weighs 50kg” were better than what we have.

Just that we need halves that are at least half decent.

That’s the thing though, Drew Hutch hadn’t ever been a particularly good player at NSW Cup level let alone making the step up. The power of good coaching.
 
I hate to sound like a broken record but It still baffles me why we didn’t sign Shaun Wane (current England Head Coach) after Browny was sacked. Wane came from a winning culture at Wigan winning three championships and would not take any **** from anyone after a poor performance with his ruthless team talks after the game and Mal Reilly-esque training styles.
 
Really... Unless the person in the box actually tells his players dont care... Which they just dont care... They don't give a **** about the 20k fans that turn up, how much they pay as long as they get paid and get all the women they want thrown at them!

Winning is not important to 80% of this team, including our captain the most overhyped player to ever put on a boot!

The club needs;

Halfback (Clune is a reserve grader at the dragons for a reason)
Five Eight (Clifford was released early for a reason)
Lock (Mann is beyond average but possibly better than Clune)

Two Back Rowers
Two Front Rowers

Until then, Bottom Four every year... Last if we get these injuries again
