Sack Adam O’Brien

Curious why we would sack AOB now, with 2 games left…and not just say we will make an announcement at the end of the season.

Or do we announce he’s stepping down at the end of the season, in 2 weeks, and in the meantime carry on?

We get a caretaker for 2 games?

We get our next coach to get off to a 0-2 start?

Is it the principle?

2 away games left, so not appeasing the loyal fans that turn up to MJ Stadium and sit through the performance.

I guess the Titans had Hannay lined up. Presumably wanted to get him before us or anybody else.

Brandon Smith, Roosters and the Penrith peeps that leaked the team news must be pleased.
It's probably O'Brien wanting to get out of the place.

We sort of spoke about this over the weekend, but now in my opinion Geoff Coburn looks really foolish. He 100% didn’t have to make a comment defending AOB. I find it extremely unlikely that Sunday was the catalyst for a massive change that led the board to do a 180 and he had to go. It concerns me that the hierarchy at the Knights gets things so wrong.
from all reports he was going to get given until early next year to prove himself but instead has decided to jump before he's pushed next year. Which doesn't seem that far fetched, by the sounds of it the Knights weren't prepared for his exit to be this early. I'm assuming, the pressure, the media reports and the stress has all drained him and he decided to get out. Don't know if he was going to be sacked in round 25 if all had gone to plan.

Understand things can change, but Geoff Coburn is never giving interviews or talking in the media. Him launching what was a pretty impassioned defence, presumably on Friday or Saturday and then the news come Tuesday night that AOB is moving on is a really poor look. Coburn has shown himself to either being a liar or out of the loop, it is extremely easy for him to just say I don’t want to go on the record.

Is it a big issue? Coaches get the board’s full support and sacked five minutes later on a regular basis. As long as he does a good job behind the scenes, I’m not bothered what he’s said to the media.
Yeah Obis payout is prob one days pokie takings . He just has to look after Wests bottom line .

I would say public opinion and the outburst he made in reference to the fans has all added up. It's hard to find anyone in Newcastle who thinks the Knights are a decent competitive team.

Coburn had no choice but to make the comments he did as any decision made by the Board should have been made to AOB prior to anyone else.
Assume Coburn was asked about the Coaching at Knights and any response he made, including “No Comment”, would have been reported without AOB being aware and created a problem with later discussions between him and the Board.
Coburn made those comments and likely explained his reasons for them to AOB.
Can’t believe all the comments on here regarding Coburns words regarding AOB some on here just get the old Nickers in a Knot and fail to see the logic in what has happened.
All this when most got what they wanted, AOB gone.

Spot on, I’m saddened to read @waynesworld
Apparently a lovely bloke maybe Geoff was the patsy in this puppet show?
He’ll also likely head up, officially, the committee to appoint a new coach. Pwehh.
Not sure as a supporter what the future holds therefore.
Bring back tinkler maybe?

Article says O'Brien will front the media at 10am tomorrow to confirm he is leaving

Geoff Coburn is foolish.

You can make comment about the coach in response to speculation porn, much the same as Parr has in recent weeks, without coming off as offering sincere support for a coach who's clearly so **** hes about to be sacked.

I think the seeds of OB giving it away started just after that press conference when he said the Knights fans booing don't know Rugby League.

That was out of character for him, and I think that came from frustration. Frustration around the results, not having what it takes to turn them around and just feeling he has no answers anymore, he has given all he has to offer.

I think prior to that he has always had belief in the direction he was going with the club, and could redeem things. But that Booing has to have affected him, especially as the reality was the fans were not booing the team, but the coach. And the booing persisted each home game after. Even last game, old boys day, there were some boos enough you could hear it around the ground when his name was announced.

From there I think he has been thinking about giving it away this season.

I've wanted him gone for quite a long while now, I think Billy is right, he started well, quickly found his limits and we kept him a few years too long in the end.

Was this his SEN interview (I didn’t get to listen with work)? As on Twitter he’s saying it will come down to whether they want experience or not with Green vs. Holbrook. He says Green has been the long-term succession plan but might be a bit early. Reading that I get the impression the board did want to give AOB more time next year but he might have brought that forward himself.

Yeah essentially thats what he said, his in the dark like us at this stage id say. If the long term plan actually is green, right or wrong we may aswell play it like the tigers did with sheens/benji and get the ball rolling

Yep and also we won that game by going away from a lot of the stuff he believes in, too.
