Funny that OB received minimal credit on here for some of our early good performances, but after a couple of poor weeks, he's back on the chopping block. The criticism of him after the last couple of weeks is warranted IMO, but interesting that coaching is only relevant for some when the team is playing poorly.
It is sometimes the case that a team can play well for a while despite the coach. I've said previously that I think factors that drove the earlier good performances was the enthusiasm Miller, Gamble and Hastings and much improved performances from Gags and Frizz and the forced absence of Mann and Ponga.
But the fundamentals of how out of his depth AOB is were still there be to seen and to be heard in his press conferences. He still put Mann back in the team the first chance he got, which was just dumb. AOB can't see or refuses to acknowledge what a liability Mann is and just never learns.
He persisted with putting KP back at 6 which never going to work for reasons already discussed.
He started Mann at lock last week which was dumb and started him 9 this week which was even dumber and should have hooked him after 10 minutes but didn't which is unforgivable.
The Knights defended well at times to start season but there still too many times the defense was rubbish which really came into focus last night. A tea, might get caught out with a try from DH on the line a few times a year, but 3 not times in one game like last night.
Having 2 small blokes on the bench like he did last night, Gamble and Crossland with Mann starting was just dumb. No wonder Parra just rolled through our forwards so easily. And one the others, Hetherington offers nothing, absolutely nothing. The only positive with him is he hasn't been sinned binned for a high shot yet, but he only plays about 11 minutes a game so give him time. Great signing.
The bigger picture. AOB is in his fourth year at the club. What has he achieved with the team? Which players have developed under AOB's coaching... Zac Hosking... Ooops sorry. AOB let him go and he's developed at the Broncos and Panthers... My bad. Jacob Kiraz of course. Oh no, sorry, AOB got rid of him because another forward and he's developed at the Bulldogs.
These are the players I think have come on in leap and bounds under AOB. Um... ...Err... I'll get back to you.
I could go on, I usually do, but I won't.
