Round 9 - Eels V Knights - Friday 28 April 6:00pm - ComBank Stadium

test of aob to see if his smart enough to end ponga at 6. needs to go to fullback, for what miller offers we need to realise ponga is here for 4 more years as our marquee player and needs to be somewhere.
AOB definitely needs to put an end now to this experiment that's failing miserably for the sake of the team, the fans, and himself!

Ponga… what could of been.

Said at the time you signed him I thought he would be the best player in the world in 2 years. Turns out he has never been top 3 in his position over the course of a season.

Never showed the attitude or desire that the top players do and he is just coasting and collecting the highest cheque in the comp each week.

If the Knights can get out from under him they should do it. Going no where fast with this pretender leading the club.

Okay so I got home not long back and just finished the 1st half.... I then skipped to the end because that was awful, that was 3 wooden spoons bad!
Kp in 1 half was so hard to watch..

A disgrace to toss up that sh*t with a near full strength side in a game that should have been 50/50 at worst.
Where was the effort and competitive spirit of the first rounds?
Ponga is a bigger dud than Darius Boyd in the red and blue, I will never believe he can be a 5/8 at an elite level. He couldn’t clean the boots of guys like Joey,Bedsy,Chief or any past greats, and he will never be in that class. Get rid of him I say.

I stopped posting last year because I didn't want to bore people my ongoing exasperation with Adam O'Brian as the Knights Coach,
but I cannot stay silent after that performance and press conference. Adam O'Brian does not have a clue what he's doing. He's dumbest
bloke to ever pick up a clip-board as an NRL coach. And he never learns... Nathan was bad, God he was bad, but he's a young Wayne Bennet
compared to AOB.

1- Moving KP to 6 was a ridiculous decision, a really obviously dumb decision. Not just for the risk of head-knocks, but for the obvious to
everyone fact that KP can't tackle. Having him in defend in the front line is just dumb. Not just for all his missed tackles and an easy target
for the opposition to attack, but the affect it has on the players either side of him knowing they are going to have to cover for him and not
being able to just concentrate on their role in the line. So dumb.

2- Yes, there were some great efforts in the rounds leading up to tonight, but they didn't have the Ponga at 6 problem and the effort and enthusiasm from Miller, Hastings and Gamble lifted the other blokes. Frizell has had his best season and Gagai is much better this year.

3- AOB's delusions about Kurt Mann are not just dumb but should be a sackable offence on their own. Kurt Mann is rubbish. Always has been.
No genuine NRL standard coach would have KM any where near a first grade 17. It was a dumb decision to resign KM. It was a dumb decision to
have KM in the 17 tonight. It was a dumb decision to start him over Crossland. It was a dumb decision not to hook him after 10 minutes.

But it was unforgivably dumb to say in the Press Conference that Mann was injured really early on in the opening exchanges but he's a solid defender and we were just trying to see if he could run it out a bit. That statement should get AOB sacked tonight. You cannot be that blind and dumb and be a first grade NRL coach.

I haven't finished yet, but I have to go into the garage and have a smoke and continue banging my head on the brick wall under the window. I always start doing that on team list Tuesday when AOB has Mann in the 17. I've gone through less Mersyndol this week because the teams weren't announced until Wednesday.

In the EPL Spurs players refunded their fans after a **** show like that. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-refund-fans-who-attended-newcastle-thrashing

I reckon the Knights should do the same.

Oh yes please, I could do with the $100 back that my ticket cost, to sit on the 30m line, to watch that rubbish.

Maybe I should invoice the Knights.

Where does one start with that game?

KP, horrible. Funny moment though, eels fan behind me says geez Ponga is ****, immediately ball heads Ponga way and he cut out passes it straight over the sidelines. He just goes, see!

OB has tied himself up to KP. 1.4 million dollar dud who cant play fullback, cant play 5/8 and cant be dropped. Gamble was more effective at 5/8 yet he was left on the bench the whole first half.

Safs, what a joke pretenders. Watched several sets in a row where our backs took all the hit ups, saf just walking around not looking to get involved. Supposed to be saving energy for D lol, yet other teamd props rip in. They are powder puffs who dont deserve to wear those jerseys.

Young should be dropped, not to reserve grade but to Bondi. Just pull up kick him out and drive away. His jogging after cievo was unforgiveable.

Mann, we have always known he was bog average but he tries, and ob hooked the wrong player anyway.

Started the season with some heart but regular programming has been restored.

Miller, 5 seconds left I know ill boot it out on the full..., oh wait thats a penalty. Parra took mercy and ended it for us.

OB back on the chopping block if he cant turn this around and fast.

On that Miller kick, not the first time he has broken the rules while we are in possession, for example his kick from beyond the mark, ref allowed retake but should have been a penalty against. Think he needs to make himself aware of the rules

Kp needs to be in a squad where he isnt the main man. Just can chime in.

Unfortunately he has realled f'd up his career. He is getting main man money and established himself as such.

He is our luke brooks.

Funny that OB received minimal credit on here for some of our early good performances, but after a couple of poor weeks, he's back on the chopping block. The criticism of him after the last couple of weeks is warranted IMO, but interesting that coaching is only relevant for some when the team is playing poorly.

When we were playing well, there were a number positive posts about him.

I had very big question marks about Young’s attempt to chase down Maika it was atrocious. He gave himself 10 metres to chase him before diving at his ankles. He would’ve caught him and taken him ball and all if he kept running? Looked like he had money on Parra!

It is sometimes the case that a team can play well for a while despite the coach. I've said previously that I think factors that drove the earlier good performances was the enthusiasm Miller, Gamble and Hastings and much improved performances from Gags and Frizz and the forced absence of Mann and Ponga.

But the fundamentals of how out of his depth AOB is were still there be to seen and to be heard in his press conferences. He still put Mann back in the team the first chance he got, which was just dumb. AOB can't see or refuses to acknowledge what a liability Mann is and just never learns.
He persisted with putting KP back at 6 which never going to work for reasons already discussed.
He started Mann at lock last week which was dumb and started him 9 this week which was even dumber and should have hooked him after 10 minutes but didn't which is unforgivable.

The Knights defended well at times to start season but there still too many times the defense was rubbish which really came into focus last night. A tea, might get caught out with a try from DH on the line a few times a year, but 3 not times in one game like last night.

Having 2 small blokes on the bench like he did last night, Gamble and Crossland with Mann starting was just dumb. No wonder Parra just rolled through our forwards so easily. And one the others, Hetherington offers nothing, absolutely nothing. The only positive with him is he hasn't been sinned binned for a high shot yet, but he only plays about 11 minutes a game so give him time. Great signing.

The bigger picture. AOB is in his fourth year at the club. What has he achieved with the team? Which players have developed under AOB's coaching... Zac Hosking... Ooops sorry. AOB let him go and he's developed at the Broncos and Panthers... My bad. Jacob Kiraz of course. Oh no, sorry, AOB got rid of him because another forward and he's developed at the Bulldogs.

These are the players I think have come on in leap and bounds under AOB. Um... ...Err... I'll get back to you.

I could go on, I usually do, but I won't.

Don’t quite get the criticism of Mann, he’s usually a strong defender and given the injury explanation it makes sense why he was missing so many last night. Maybe he should have been taken off earlier and that’s a valid criticism. But between Mann and Crossland I’d definitely start the game with Mann at 9 given the choice.

Of course an actual 9 is much more preferable to either of them.

Fox reporting AOB and Mann had a huge bust up in the changing rooms.

I reckon it’s possible Adzy was filthy with him for staying out there when he should have put his hand up and come off. He could barely move.

Surely AOB could have sub him as soon as he realised he was in trouble, put your sub on sideline, break of play swap. Captain, Friz or Ponga should have signalled they had a problem with Mann

Just watching the presser and OB gives them an out due to the last few weeks they have had with close games, extra time etc.

My answer to that is if they have had a rough few weeks, why did you keep them out on the field for 3 times longer than Parramatta warming up and 10 minutes before the game still running tackle bag drills. It was like a training session pre game, not a warm up.

Ponga on 6, first full game at 6 and learning etc, yeah but your main issue from tonight was your defence, tackling. KP says he doesn't want to use excuses, sitting next to his coach that just ran out a bunch of excuses for the performance.

So with the rest coming up, the expectation will be the team returns to earlier season form next game.
