Round 6 - Knights vs Tigers @ Hunter Stadium

Brown's Round 6 team news

Wed 6th April, 02:43PM

As the Newcastle Knights build for a long awaited return to Hunter Stadium on Sunday, coach Nathan Brown has provided an update on his squad following injuries to key personnel.

In last week’s match against the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park, injuries to Sione Mata’utia (concussion) and Danny Levi (back) saw the Knights play most of the game with just two on the bench.

“Sione is going well at the minute, but there’s a fair few protocols he has to get through.

When or if he gets through them, then he and the doctor will have to be comfortable and if that’s the case, he’ll play,” Brown said on Wednesday.

“If he doesn’t tick all the boxes then he won’t play. It will be a decision that will be made later in the week.”

In the event of Mata’utia not taking the field, Brown says there are a number of options to fill the void at centre.

"Today we looked at Jaelen (Feeney) and Robbie Rochow did a really good job there. We will go based on training, but it will probably be a last minute decision with Sione,” he added.

While Danny Levi sat out of training on Wednesday, Brown says he is improving.

“He had an epidural a few days ago and they are expecting him to settle and play, but again we won’t really know until he starts training,” he said.

“We are hopeful he will do a bit of training tomorrow.”

Likewise, if Levi does not prove fitness, Brown will look to a utility player to take his place on the Knights’ bench.

“Will Pearsall has been playing well in reserve grade and Jaelen (Feeney) can play a utility role as well so it will definitely be someone who can play a utility role,” he said.

Jake Mamo began running again on Wednesday, but will be closer to making a return to the playing field next week.
“We are hopeful him and Chanel Mata’utia (knee) will be back next week,” he said.

Meanwhile, prop Kade Snowden remains in rehabilitation group.

“Kade has a number of niggling issues with his body which is limiting his training ability at the moment,” he said.

Brown was particularly pleased to see the Knights bounce back well after an extended period on the road after travelling to New Zealand for Round 4 and direct to Melbourne for Round 5.

“The boys have had a few days off which they deserve after being on the road for eight or nine days,” he said.

“They put in a fair effort against Melbourne.”

After a recovery day and video review on Tuesday, the team was back on the training track at Knights HQ in unseasonably hot weather.

“The session was pretty good and there were plenty out there doing their extras,” Brown said.

“They were in good spirits.”

Good decision Beaumont.

And Left Foot has gotta stop manhandling the body so much!

One thing to be grateful for is Foxtel's live coverage don't have to listen to Rabbits and Gould!

we won 12 games in 2013 and 10 in 2014.
might be lucky to win 5 this year
Aku/Gagai/BJ/McManus with these guys we were still also rans give the guys a break we knew this year was going to be a rebuilding year ...

It's a good change to have taken some money out of our all star backline and bought Hodkinson and forwards like Stockwell, Tariq and Pauli Pauli.
The high priced backline of Boyd, Uate, Gagai, BJ and McManus was literally as useless as tits on a bull when they were getting no ball at all.
Forwards and halves win matches.

we've been rebuilding for 10 years
I disagree with that I don't call what happened under the BSBenny / Tinkerbell regime rebuilding. I call that trying to buy a premiership no matter what and wrecking a club to do so... Now were rebuilding because of that.
Were getting there and weve bought some good players and brought through some good young players who have responded well imo , Brown is doing a good job. We haven't won a game yet and I'm still excited ...What excites me the most is for the 1st time in a long time we have a BIG pack of hungry forwards they are inexperienced but that will come with time.

If Gagai makes F/B his position , the three Matautia's Keep improving and Uate starts playing like we know he can , our halves start to fire after a few more games together , behind a BIG hungry pack ....Tell you what all we need is experience and game time together ...

If by talking up, you mean I repeatedly said we have no idea how he would go under a high ball or in defence - maybe in your tiny mind, with your particular skill at selective reading, maybe that is talking up.
I doubt I can dumb it down enough for you, but let me again explain that he has a lot of potential and giving him a shot at fullback is definitely worth it. I'd like for him to have most of the season in NSW cup to try to learn the position, and he might go well.
Read that however you will - I know it will be far more interesting after you have put your halfwitted brand on it.

Wow talk about crying me a river. Was just a comment. Calm your little farm billy

You build your team around the forwards and halves, the left over money should go towards wingers and centres as they're disposable. I do think that some money should be spent on a fullback though, so the money for Boyd would have been justified if he actually performed.

So I made one comment to what I thought billy had said re talking Feeney up as a fullback option which he did as my memory serves he was the first to suggest him at fullback which I agreed with at the time, and he writes abuse back and I'm the one trolling? get your hand off it lordy

ANYWAY........

Can anyone think of a good reason why they would put us in Mining jerseys against the Orange team again? My only thought is that if a lot of the stadium is orange then the Tigers fans will just blend in.

There away jersey is white and grey with a orange stripe isn't it? I guess its the fans who will have the original tigs jersey. Ahwell the knights may even think there is only knights fans haha.
