I was kind of hoping for them to win against the eels who look 100x better without the cancer Hayne there but now worried they’ll be motivated against us.
We did beat them last time and it was a nice handy win so hope we can do everything as well as possible like we did against the sharks to give ourselves a chance at winnings

Titans forwards held their own. They had no direction in the halves which was understandable in the circumstances.

Well CBM just as well they held their own - they could not hold the ball. And Wallace must have contributed half a dozen shoulder charges.

Isaah Yeo possible concussion. Expected to be named but must pass protocol
Kikau still out
Sele ??? over his fitness. Been cleared of a break Panthers hopeful he plays

For us Saifiti the only obvious injury but we have Ese Ese to come straight back in. Heres hoping he carves up after being dropped!!
We SHOULD win this one imo in front of what should be yet another 20k+ crowd with a decent time slot!

Both teams had very poor handling. It was horrendous conditions. Titans are poor but their forwards held their own and weren’t the reason the Titans lost.

Hopefully we can chip in a few K more and get to the 25k mark this weekend, given last weeks performance and hopefully better weather, and a better timeslot.

Knights v Panthers: Ese'ese in for Saifiti, Katoa returns

With all the hype and expectation swirling around his team, Knights coach Nathan Brown must have breathed a big sigh of relief after last week's gutsy victory over Cronulla.

It wasn't picture-perfect by any means, but it was a gritty win over an experienced, talented side and showed Brown the revamped Knights are prepared to tough it out.

Now comes the tricky bit - keeping the Knights playing at a high level for the next 24 rounds.

The Panthers are another coveted scalp but you'd have to think they'll be stinging to bounce back after being upstaged by Paramatta in round one.

The Rundown

Team news

Knights: Herman Ese'ese replaces the injured Daniel Saifiti (knee) on the bench.

Panthers: Sione Katoa returns from concussion at hooker, with Wayde Egan moving to the bench and Jarome Luai out of the 17. Frank Winterstein replaces Tyrell Fuimaono on the interchange. Reagan Campbell-Gillard is named to start, with Moses Leota dropping back to the bench.

Key match-up

Simply can't go past the heavyweight bout in the halves between three incumbent Origin players and one former Blues playmaker who has more Origin experience than the other three combined. The outcome of this game depends largely on the battle between Newcastle duo Mitchell Pearce and Kalyn Ponga and Panthers pair Nathan Cleary and James Maloney.

For the Knights to win

As mentioned Ponga and Pearce have to play starring roles, but they will only be able to make things happen if the likes of Dave Klemmer and his fellow big men create time and space by nullifying Penrith's forwards.

For the Panthers to win

As much as they might refute the theory, the Panthers didn't really show up in the first half against the Eels and paid the price. Slow starts plagued them last season and they better be ready to go against the improved Knights.

Brett Kimmorley says ...

Newcastle were great in completion rate and energy, and Mitchell Pearce controlled things with a great kicking game. I think David Klemmer is the leader and key for the Knights. If Klemmer keeps repeating that form, Mitchell Pearce can control things with a nice kicking game. Penrith hurt themselves last week with a bit of poor ball control and ill-discipline. If they can get themselves in front early it will really help.

Thinking about this game last night, this though early is one of those games that can really set up our season, Panthers have 2-3 forwards carrying injuries, their spine has been tinkered with(maloney and cleary have swapped sides) it really is a good opportunity to get them early. We grab this win and we only need to win 11/22 matches to make the 8.

Canberra suprisingly looks like our toughest task ATM, Dragons are a good team to play at the moment without arguably their 2 best forward De Belin and Vaughn, plus missing a few backs from last year and they are also chopping and changing their team.

Imagine if we can go 2/4 or even 3/4.

I know we have plenty of changes as well but if we can keep up that huge defence we'd be hard to knock over as well.

Anyway thanks for reading my musings

Actually, our draw is even softer to start the season than I realised. After the panthers its;

Raiders, Dragons, Manly, Titans, Eels, Warriors, Bulldogs, Dragons.

We might be favourites in all of those games.

We have the depth to cover injuries, except to Pearce.
If Pearce gets injured, we'll need a lot of luck to get a win because we don't have a quality playmaker without him.

Yeah it is good for us to develop our combos that is for sure, as long as we don't get a false sense of security.
Raiders/warriors, maybe the eels and the dragons second time could be anything. Walks in the park or really tough contests, depending on who gets off the bus.
hopefully we are consistent and have gotten the randomness that has plagued us out of our game.
