Pretty happy with the effort, even though the construction in attack is still a bit wobbly, it will improve. The result is the result, however Penrith were very offside at times. With 7 minutes left we had them on the rack, it would have been interesting if we had some field position in that period, refferee ignoring the offside rule and tired errors didn't allow that. All in all very promising result and I am confident the clunky attack will click soon. Onward and upward!

I noticed this with Maloney, multiple times. But it's good to lose by 2 and do all that defending, as opposed to losing by 20 like the Bulldogs do.

Sione is doing okay and for Pete's sake Scaleybugs we got beaten by two miserable points after Watson's try was disallowed when it was a fair try, and Penrith were given one without going to the bunker when second rower tackled short.

And if we had taken the two from a penalty it is different game as we get the ball back again and start another attack instead of turning it over. Admittedly the screams of outrage 'not the two' on this forum would have been heard in Penrith lol!!!!!

Worst defender in the NRL.

Poor offensive stats.

Fact.
Worst defender in the NRL is a fact is it?
He has a better tackle efficiency than others in the team.
Please explain how he is the worst defender in the NRL?

I notice you don't talk about Watson making 5 tackles and missing 4 on the weekend.

Maybe Sione misses a tackle due to attacker sidestepping straight into the arms of a bloke named Klemmer, missed tackles are not good but will happen and only a serious worry if causing a long break or try. I’m sure some of Sione’s Tackles were because somebody missed someone, it happens, every game has missed tackles and even poor tacklers, Maloney, pull off try savers.

Geez that opened a can of worms...

As i said it hasnt cost us as yet, though is Sione a better player then onthers in our roster in said position?? Imo no.
Guerra is better by a mile, if we want to be a defensive force? Then why leave arguable our best defensive player on the bench?

As for the KP stuff, imo our attack it flat atm due to Browns plan of fast tracking KP by having him do all the ball play for the first month or so.
I expect our structure to change a lot in attack by the 6th-8th rds once KP has got the grasp of the timing and picking the pass sorted as a 6.

Sione can't play prop is the answer I guess.

No but he sure as hell could cause havoc in the middle vs tired forwards off the bench.

This is on Brown....
Put Siome to the bench, bring Guerra to the edge as a starter.

When we have the momentum
in attack bring Sione on in the middle to terrorise the the opponents middle under fatigue with his leg speed and stocky Build.

He may not score tries, but he'll stretch the D line and create opportunities out wider, like his own missed tackles have done lol.

...don't know if Guerra has the legs for the full 80 anymore tbh. I think he's coming off the bench to keep him fresh and so he can face tired players... Or maybe cos browny wants his experience to settle the team at the end of games...

Guerra can easily play 80 minutes,
Did 80 minutes last year almost every week and also did a extra 20% more then he should have to cover other peoples stuff ups.

Its a mute point though as Brown has a plan which is working atm.
Once we have our full 17 available I'd expect changes to be made on players in the 13 not doing the 1% right.

I wouldn't say easily. Last season he played 80 but looked completely gassed at end of each half to the point he looked barely standing.

Funnily enough I've been defending Guerra to my mate who reckons he's a has-been that misses plenty of tackles. Statistically yes Guerra missed heaps of tackles last year, but again the stats don't always tell the full story, remembering Guerra was playing close to 80 every week in a side that was full of bad defenders, as mentioned above he was doing a lot of clean up work due to our other middles being poor defenders.

Guerra will benefit this year from not having to play as many minutes this year (Barnett also) so I'm expecting a good year from him, my only concerns with him is cap related considering his 'wage v role' scenario (but apparently that's ridiculous according to Lord)

Same applies to Sione concerning his missed tackle numbers, they are high but remembering he's making a lot of tackles and I watched him closely on the weekend his miss tackles were more a case of him 'throwing an arm out' at guys being tackled by others or falling off gang tackles.

He didn't miss any glaring one on ones or make any real bad reads which was his issue last season as well. SIone is more of a threat on the edge which is why I presume he is being picked over Guerra or Barnett, although as I said in an earlier post we're not seeing the 2017 version of Sione where he was running good lines off his halves, still early days though.

Yeah, I get that and agree. But even at the end of first half he looked gassed. I don't see how he would be best utilised in an 80 minute role.
I don't think either Sione or Guerra has looked bad this season... In fact I would say the water level is definitely up from last year for the entire team. Maybe you could say Watson hasn't had a great start, I feel like he's the weakest link at the moment because he hasn't really had the impact maybe... Though I'm comparing him to KP last year, which is a bit unfair.

Sione can't play prop/middle, Guerra and Barnett can.

After all the pre-season hype about setting records in the gym etc you'd expect his metres per run and post contact metres to be better than what they are. Barnett and Guerra are carrying the ball more strongly at this point.

If they're just going to use him as a tackle-bot probably doesn't matter.

His post contact metres are actually really good per run, it’s just amount of runs he has is the problem, a lot of that I would put down to use only using our left side apart from the occasional kick to skd

But when sione tackles he wins the ruck most times and drives them back a lot

If Sione doesn’t become more of a threat with the ball he will be dropped, we’re not short on numbers in the middle like we were last year.

Two things you said Slots -

If they’re using Sione as a ‘tackle bot’ They’re using the wrong guy, Guerra would be much better

Also if you’re saying Sione is only being picked ahead of Guerra & Barnett because he can’t play middle, that’s wrong. Not your opinion which is perfectly fair but if that’s the reasoning behind Brown picking Sione that’s wrong.

Pick your best guy for the position, as I said we’ve got options in the middle now, so if Sione isn’t the best edge player and he can’t play middle he should be in Reggies.

I was interested so here are the numbers for the forwards that have played both games;

Metres per run : Post-contact metres per run

Guerra 10.67 : 0.44
Klemmer 10.15 : 0.38
Barnett 9.25 : 0.36
Fitz 9.00 : 0.38
Glasby 8.33 : 0.37
Sione 8.21 : 0.34
Gavet 7.47 : 0.37
