Players' Player: Round 16

Mon 29th June, 01:24PM

Even before Robbie Rochow and Beau Scott were injured on Friday night Korbin Sims knew that he would have to step up and take a leadership role in the forward pack.

But with Rochow and Scott joining the likes of Houston and Stockwell on the injury list Sims found himself the most experienced forward for the Knights despite only being 23 years old.

Some players choke under that sort of pressure, but Sims clearly thrived.

He played an incredible 74 minutes and made 42 tackles, only missing two despite becoming increasingly fatigued with the workload that was forced upon him.

And then he also scored a try, which was his fourth in four appearances against the Broncos.

Sims has spoken of his desire to play for the Maroons, and this performance won't do his chances any harm.

STATS

- 74 minutes played
- 11 runs
- 157 metres
- 42 tackles
- 95.5% tackle accuracy
- 1 tackle break
- 1 try

Knights' Numbers: Round 16

Wed 1st July, 09:02AM

It was an open and free-flowing game of football at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, as can be seen by the large number of linebreaks and run metres.

Dane Gagai, Jake Mamo and Akuila Uate in particular enjoyed some open space on the right flank.

More worringly though there was also an increase in errors.

The Knights paid the ultimate price in that department as the Broncos often punished them with tries when they failed to finish off a set.

More positives can be found in the numbers that the Knights' young forward pack came up with though.

Both Sam Mataora and Pat Vaivai recorded 100% tackle accuracy and both Tariq and Korbin Sims came up with more than 40 tackles.
