Round 1: Newcastle Knights vs NZ Warriors

again..... close isnt good enough in the nrl. need to be much better for 80mins if we expect to win a game this year
 
Thought yates was impressive on debut. Starling is proving already he was a decent pickup. some good signs out there today just to many errors and poor last tackle options. On a plus atleast our hardest roadtrip is done and dusted.
 
A lot of positives to take out of that first and foremost the fight to get back into the game that would not have happened last season, I also thought our attack improved from last season. I thought a number of players showed improvement and despite some criticism here I thought Lamb looked pretty good had some nice touches and made some good tackles his kicking needs some improvement but it appeared a tactic to bomb today to limit RTS's kick return metres.
 
I really thought Hodko and Gagai were both set to go to a new level after the trials, but they both just settled into last year's form.
Yates got very close to 100 metres and didn't miss a tackle.
Barnett had easily the best forward numbers. 49 tackles - 0 missed - 129 metres.
 
Ahh look we weren't bad but just not good enough in the end. Hokko missed 2 meaning scores could have been level which isn't bad considering warriors have an impressive line up on paper. Most disappointing was gagai for me. Pete did some good things but more often then not did really bad things. Barnett impresses me with every run. Sorry blokes but starling wasn't that great for me. Clean up a few errors and silly defensive reads and I think we are well on our way to at least 8 wins this year!
 
we also need to look at attacking kicks. Not once did we put pressure on their back 3 on tackle 5. Very disappointing by Hoko and Lamb.
