I played with both tariq and korbin in juniors and tariq is actually a really strong leader, his been pretty inconsistent for the Knights but by the end of last year he was starting to look good

I thought of that too, but in the team photo Tariq and Hodkinson were front and centre. I think they're going to share it
 
Making Johns captain worked well.
It was such a risky choice at the time that they made him on field captain and Billy Peden the off field captain, but he grew into the job and it improved his behaviour on and off the field.

Brown talking about team makeup for the year.

He doesn't give much away, but he does say Uate and Gagai are dangerous on one wing and Sione and his brothers for the other side.

My feeling so far is that Brown has shown he favours big, hard running players all over the field. He has gone for big forwards, big hookers, big halves, and it sounds like he wants 100kg + backs as well. Bad news for Mamo and Ross, and little Cogger doesn't seem to be getting much love either.

 
With Brown saying there'll be "a number of" players who haven't played NRL yet when he names the team tomorrow, I'm guessing that's 3 debutants so my guess would be pretty much the trial 17 with the inclusion of Mullen and Saifiti

Same, but after that interview I think he might go for Chanel over Mamo.
 
He also mentioned about announcing the squad and captain tomorrow. So in 24 hours we'll have a much clearer idea.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing but I think he'll still give Mamo first shot. I wouldn't be surprised if Chanel is there though. I'd be okay with it, size, power and just as good if not better finishing skills than Mamo.
 
Highly possible Slot, just think with the way Brown was talking about the debutants it may be a Saifiti in there instead but with Fitzgibbon only playing one game he could still be considered a player with no real NRL experience.
 
I still don't like the look of Smith taking up a spot in our starting 17... I'll probably change my mind tomorrow morning but knowing me

I was about to say that Canberra aren't really a developing & growing team anymore as they have become a bit of a bought not bred team of recent, but looking through their team, they have a surprisingly well balanced squad. Plenty of experienced juniors coming into their prime, with a handful of decent signings from the last 3 years added to compliment the squad. Pretty much the kind of squad that would be ideal, keeping young guys with the club at heart who will grow with it & stick around long term while adding players in from outside to add some quality. Canberra probably lack a few big names but they should make the finals I think.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Bhana's name gets thrown out there tomorrow as well... Brown rated his defensive efforts in the trial.
 
Bhana is a Smith clone basically. I don't think he'll play round 1 but when Smith inevitably gets injured I think Bhana may move straight into starting lock.

What do we think the plan is for the 2nd row when Tariq comes back now that Korbin is there too? We have 3 starting-level second rowers who are all capable of playing 80 minutes, and at this point I think we'll need to have 3 middle forwards on the bench with Randell or Levi.
