Round 1 2016 Team

Ricky Stuart has never, ever improved a team in all his coaching career so I am confident in my statement, unfortunately cash poor otherwise would love to take you up on it Josh!

In 2002 at the Roosters they were out in the first week of the finals the previous year (hammered by us in fact) and ended up winning the competition in his rookie season. That by definition is an improvement.

That team was primed AKA when Hages took us over. How'd it go for him after that?
Was just responding to your initial statement. I don't necessarily disagree with you, Stuart's track record isn't great but I really think Canberra are a side on the up. I think they'll definitely make the 8 and may push for top 4.

Ehh I just hope feeney swims instead of sinks. Of course he will make errors, I expect him too. I really just hate seeing us lose haha time and time again.

You can't take too much out of a trial especially when it seems like some of our older guys didn't want to be there. But with the signings they've made they have a very strong squad, if they can turn their cold depressing home ground into a fortress then they're a genuine contender imo.

It's pretty funny the next Billy Slater is losing his job to a guy who has played zero senior games at fullback.

Potentially we could have fielded

1 The next Billy Slater
3 The next Reg Gasnier
7 The next Joey
9 The next Cameron Smith.

Geez how haven't we been contenders ?

1 We have gone for the next Darren Lockyer instead
3 The kid is 19 give him a chance nobody is a superstar before at least 21
7 Whoever said this is an idiot there will never be another Joey
9 Levi is more the Isaac Luke type player and id take that don't worry
We will be contenders.... when they all get a little older wiser and more experienced ...2018 we will win the comp...

He inherited that squad with all the hard work done by the late Graham Murray.

They finished 6th the year before and got trounced in the first week of the finals. Like it or not Stuart did something to get abit more out of the side for them to win a premiership and make 3 Grand Finals in a row.

Have a look at that side. Was all young guys that Graham brought into the club and developed only for Stuart to waltz in and pick up the glory when they were ready with the guiding hand of Freddy.

Wait 12 months? The next Billy Slater might be playing NSW Cup, the next Cameron Smith is playing for Canberra and the next Joey (whichever one this is, ha) will sink without a trace, like the last 7.

Not saying that Stuart did all the ground work because they were a top club under Gould than Murray but he certainly added something. He bought Mullins which was an excellent signing. Also Minichiello, Fitzgibbon and Morley took their games to another level under his tutelage. Hell even Finch nearly won a Dally M with him as the coach.

Stuart is no supercoach obviously when you look at his time at Parra but he is a pretty decent coach. He's probably abit unfairly maligned because he comes across as a massive ****er.

Given the fact that Brown started Feeney at fullback in the teams only "real" trial, I would be surprised if he doesn't stick with him going into round 1. It would seem like a waste of time to play him in the trial if he isn't going to start their against the Titans, especially if Mamo was his first choice! Given Mamo's limited experience any game time at fullback would have been invaluable. With regards to some members believing it is ok for some of our senior players to go through the motions against the Raiders because it is only a trial, absolute bull****, that attitude will not win you many games trial or not!

That's why we have to wait 12 months for our young guns as usual

"could have had" as opposed to "will have". Reference to Adam Clydesdale aka the next Cameron Smith. Mullen been pressured to fill the void left by Johns retirement. Sione with a boom placed on him to due being the youngest Kangaroo ever and finally Mamo being tongue in cheek referred to as the next Slater. It was an attempt at being humorous albeit an obvious poor 1 with a touch of sarcasm which quite often goes hand in hand with my posts. Maybe someone can come with an entire run on team of "nexts"
