RLWC 2026

Fiji always go well at World Cups. Made the semi finals beating us in 2017 then nearly made the semis again in 2022.
Made the semis in 2008 and 2013 as well.

I reckon it's ridiculous they're always stuck in the second division of the Pacific Championships, and they're stuck in this group with Australia and NZ that there's virtually no exit from, too. Although I'm definitely not taking a win against them for granted as a Kiwis fan, I reckon it's going to be tough! They've been great tonight!!!

2 weeks in a row where Australia arguably hasnt been the best team but has still won. Not sure if concerning or if its a good thing they can win and not play particularly well

I still can't forget 2017 lol, the whole Ki in the Wi moment.

Fiji certainly got the rough end of pineapple being stuck with Australia and New Zealand in the same pool. Also missing Kikau won't help them. I agree it will be a tough game next weekend on the Gold Coast but the Kiwis despite winning very comfortably today in the end need to be a lot better next week.

In all my time watching league, Australia has never been a side that beats itself. They'll take every chance, give them an inch and they'll take a mile. It's been on evidence in these first two games. The three other semi-finalists are all capable of beating them (in fact I think Tonga, Samoa, Aus and NZ are all almost equally capable of winning the tournament), but if any team does beat them they really have to play a near faultless game.

Always been that way.

Ki in the Wi! lol ... I was at that 2017 NZ Fiji quarter-final with a Fijian mate who was loving it haha. The interviews after the game were chaos as well, Adam Blair "this isn't a negative for us", Shaun Johnson "you (NZ public) all got what you wanted" 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

It was such a low I felt like the team needed all the support they needed, so I flew up to the next Kiwis test in 2018 which ended up being a 26-24 win over Aus in front of about 2000 people at Mt Smart haha. Made a lot of noise though. All seems like a long time ago now!

I don’t think we could have handed the opportunity to win the game to Fiji any better if we tried, we were so ****, not prepared, not trained, we looked unfit and uninspiring. That is not the best footy we could have played not even close to it but that’s a Walters coached side for you, he can make anyone look like world beaters… to bad it’s normally the other side.

As the great Georges St-Pierre once said “I’m not impressed with your performance”.

Kurt Donoughue was a very good halfback for us at Flegg level.
We made a GF with a spine that had him at halfback and Fletcher Sharpe at fullback.
I hope his MOTM performance in this game will lead to him getting more games in the halves at club level.
In the 2022 Flegg GF team defeated by Penrith, Donoghue played 6 and Mitch Henderson played 7. Donoghue was always a five-eighth in our pathways and when he went to the Dolphins they used him as a utility.
