RLWC 2026

Most of the players are from Australia or NZ with some from PNG, Eng and France and a smattering from other places.

It's like in the Union WC you could make up at least 4 teams of players born in NZ across about 15 countrys.

The selection of players for all the Countries is mostly those that have commenced, developed and played in Australia along with a smattering of English and Nz.
Many players, especially the Pacific Island countries played for Australia prior to the game expanding, the only International game was Aust v England that is all now changing and with mixed origins many players can now claim to be available to play for more than one country.
On a personal level I would think that most would support country of origin with second and third choices being swayed with own team (Knights) favourite players like hoping Ponga, Young and other have strong games in winning teams but not so much against Aust.
A lot of Knights supporters are likely attached to teams through family heritage and rightly have strong attachments to support them and any support of any team by whoever should be encouraged rather than ridiculed.

Well it’s implicit in saying you wouldn’t mind seeing kiwis win 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️
Am I going for Australia? Yes. Obviously…

Would I be mad if New Zealand won? No.

If they got the win it wouldn’t bother me that much as it’d be good for the growth of the game. As others have already mentioned, I’d rather see our own players do well for their respective teams than be excited for Kevvie backing his favourite boys.

In my personal opinion, Internationals got a bit tiresome during the Smith/Thurston/Slater etc era as Australia were always winning or expected to win. Yeah it was great and all, but got boring after a while.

Please don’t tell me you are Aussie and saying this 🤦‍♂️
Why, Australia winning everything all the time is not good for the sport. The stronger everyone else gets the better.

I always go for NZ, and I support Tonga and Samoa too if they’re playing Australia.

Now that KP is in the side even better. Couldn’t care less about the Australian team. It’s a game of football, not war

everyone is getting better lol. I’m not sure if you’ve been watching lately. It’s just basic patriotism to support your country in all endeavours, sport being one of them. You go for who you want but don’t try and act like it’s somehow normal to barrack against your own nation ffs

Mate, your takes are not normal, almost everyone who has replied to you has a completely different view than you which at this point makes your point of view the odd one out. You can be a radical patriot if you like, others have some brains, and Australia likes an underdog story. Again, to each their own, but please stop attacking others point of view as if they dont deserve it. Just because yours is narrow minded.

I’ll be supporting NZ, but a Tonga or Samoa win would be great for the game … even an England win would be a huge boost over there.

And the All Blacks could lose every test by 50 for the rest of the year and I’d find it hilarious.

I wouldn’t be holding my breath for that to happen if I were you…..we are treading water and have done so for 20 years.
It’s sad to see, it’s amazing that you haven’t beaten Aus once in 20 years. I remember growing up watching the 94 Ashes tour and some of the good club sides would give Australia a run for their money.

Seems like a period of competitiveness that came with a lot of English players in the NRL has ended too … Burgess, Graham, Hodgson, Whitehead, Bateman … most of those players have gone, and the ones that are still around aren’t making as much of an impact.

I don’t see the answer for where you guys go from here.

"Patriotism" is not an inherent virtue. The whole modern concept of a nation-state has only existed since the 17th century. If you went back 5-600 years and explained the concept citizenship & of allegiance to a geographic region constrained by borders some guy drew on a map, they would look at you like you'd just grown a second head.

"Normal" is feeling close ties of kinship with family and friends, "normal" is the need to eat, drink and sleep, "normal" is the instinct human beings have to form small communities and co-operate, etc etc etc. Patriotism, like capitalism, religion, etc, is something invented and imposed by above. If we didn't have those things it'd be something else. It has been something else at various times in history. It only feels "normal" because that's what you're used to.

3 people is a sample size reflective of the nation? And you’re the one with brains? Got it 🤣

I’m not attacking anyone. I have a different opinion and if you don’t like it go cry in a corner and ask mummy to make you a sandwich

Patriotism began as a political concept in Greek and Roman antiquity over 2,000 years ago, long before the creation of modern nation-states.

You obviously are a secular commie but that doesn’t mean you can be wrong with such confidence.

I am aware this forum is football related and people don’t wanna hear us arguing about other things so respond how you wish but I will leave it here.

To be honest, I think the pretence of national sides when nearly everyone hail from mainly Aus and NZ with some English and French nationals just holds us back.
If we accepted the teams are heritage and culture based we could add an Aboriginal and a Maori side, which would weaken both Aus and NZ and make the WC a genuine contest between about 10 strong sides.
We don't have to follow what other sports do. In fact, we only pretend to anyway. It would be a three team comp if everyone had to follow olympic rules and hold a valid passport to represent.

I was wondering the popular Roman slogan, "Fuccus offus, weara fullus" comes from...
