Rep Weekend 2022

The Fiji fullback Turuva is a future star…
2 Tries
1 Try saver
230 Metres gained
He looks to be a great defensive fullback who does all the dirty work. If we move Ponga to 6 and Sign Turuva to play fullback we could have a spine of.
1. Turuva
6. Ponga
7. Milford/Clifford, possibly Hastings.
9. Brailey
This is a somewhat realistic spine but I think the best possible outcome for us is:
1. Ponga
6. Milford
7. Hastings
9. Brailey

With world class talents such as
  • Kim Andre Seglem
  • Kristoffer Borsheim
  • Ole Magnus Brekk, Frank Kiriinya, Simon Viljoen
  • Bendik Kalvi etc etc
I’m surprised they aren’t pushing for top 3
C'mon your cutting them a bit shallow yeah? Guys that get from 300 to 1000 crowd figures sure deserve top 2 honours surely.

If the Tongans are watching this Samoa/Cook Islands game they’ll be wishing Milford had Tongan heritage, Amone and Staggs’ last play options killed them all game. Granted this Cook Islands side is pretty bad and Milford is operating in more space than he’s had since that night the Broncos did us 53-0.
Thought the Tongan halves didn’t even get much of a chance to do anything. Their much vaunted forward pack could barely get out of their own half, and the few times they did look to get a bit of momentum the Kiwis got really aggressive with them and wrestled the momentum back. I was quite impressed, I think NZ enjoyed playing together again after almost three years.

Amazing atmosphere at the game, the Tongan fans are the greatest on the planet and so friendly and good natured as well. Was a brilliant night all round!

I reckon the two things feed into each other, Staggs and Amone never turned the NZ forwards around with their kicking and it’s easier to rip in when you have more petrol in the tank. That said it’s a big ask to expect them to play as well as Brown and Hughes.

Definitely, but the Kiwis were kicking from a lot better position from early on, as well.

Also thought the Kiwi backline was outstanding btw. They possibly could have cashed in a bit more with all their territory, but 26 is never bad in a test.

Excited for the World Cup now haha

Should be a good one, that Kiwi side is going to be very hard to beat. Especially with the way Australian rep sides can be hamstrung by politics at the selection table.

Australia wasn’t great in 2018 and 2019 being beat by NZ and Tonga those two years … unfortunately for us I think they’ve sorted out that Smith/Cronk/Slater retirement hangover now, despite barely having played a game. Still big favourites for me, but you never know I spose.
