Toohey said in his last article that he had talked to Dom's managers and they were making progress.

Seems likely this is coming from Dom's manager and not the club, who give away nothing these days.

When you weigh it all up, surely Best could forego $100k to remain a Knight for life:-

1. Has his business to run (even if people running it for you, being close by matters)
2. We entering a Premiership window
3. Been a Knight his whole career and now young Bro is here
4. Settled in the area with young growing family
5. Property price difference / cost of living
6. He now gets to look at Dom more in the showers

Some things money can’t buy, particularly #5! But seriously, for an extra $100k per annum you could easily trade off $60k to $80k of that with these factors. That prick of a tax man is taking half too!

Stay and win a Premiership Braddy. If we (you) can stay fit, it’ll happen for sure in 2028.

Surely these players can see a premiership in their sights. Hell, I’m still convinced, we were a few injuries away from a minor premiership. I’m disappointed Brown will miss the start of 2027, we need to start strong and set ourselves up for the backend.

I think a year extension, til the end of 2028. And a club option (more money, or what he wants) for 2029 otherwise we go to negotiations and let him go for his pay day. If he’s on fire, winning a premiership, we keep him, if not, he’s free to leave and we should have decent options knocking down the door then.

Fans are obviously going to look at it differently but from the player's perspective having an injury history is a reason to maximise their earnings while they can, not a reason to take less. It's a business for both sides and there's no guarantee the money you leave behind will be there later.
