Recruitment And Retention Discussion

In a year or 2 if the young guys all develop how we hope, we are going to have some tough decisions to make on who we keep as we won’t be able to keep them all

We currently have:
Marzhew
B Best
Hunt
Young
Winter
Votano
Seve
Best JR

In 2 years time it could easily be
Winter
Best
Seve
Best JR

Would say we don’t have a FB his quality in juniors just yet. Jayson Bishop having his first few games into Flegg and a couple years away. But talent kid with ball in hand

I haven’t seen much of reserve grade but would it be fair to say Votano is the most KP like fullback of the lot? He seems to have decent ball-playing ability that Hunt, etc don’t

Word around the city is he actually bought a place a few months back and is knee-deep in renovations. Doesn't sound like a bloke who has his bags packed for another club if he's actively laying down roots.

Yes, Votano,s try assist to DeCourcy for the first try tonight was right out of Pongas play book
 
His passing and vision as a whole has been genuinely good lately but to compare him to Ponga would be an extreme exaggeration. He basically has no running game to speak of let alone anything even comparable to Ponga.

A year or two ago there was a brief attempt to turn him into a five-eighth and I think if anything his recent form would maybe encourage them to revisit that plan.

Yeah out and out 7 from what I’ve seen and the most skilled halfback we have had come through since Pezet in my own opinion.

He has it all including a pretty lethal left foot step close to the line

From what I’ve seen he is a massive future prospect, but won’t be a first grader for a few years yet.
 
Butler is doing school this year.
He's basically a Galvin type - big body with athletic ability - but also always trying things and getting try assists.
He should have his second year in Ball next year and move on to Flegg after the Ball season.
He spent some time training with firstgrade in the pre christmas period, but I think he was only there because they needed a playmaker with a great kicking game when Brown etc were not able to train due to playing rep footy last year.

This article says SG Ball coach Matt Lantry wants to coach with an NRL club and leave Maitland.

He says he'd love to get a job at the Knights, but will go to another club if he has to.

He is 44.

Pantry has a great pedigree so far in his coaching career. He could be an NRL coach in waiting in the short term. And he wants to coach in Newcastle as well.
