Wayde Egan's position mightn't be as solid as it was 12 months ago given the emerging talent the Warriors have at 9.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him leave, and Newcastle need a 9. And, his brother will be here. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the signing of the younger brother had at least some ulterior motives
 
Egan as our 9 would be immense. He reads the ruck well, brings players onto the ball and his speed (passing and running) is quality. Only question mark is his ability to stay fit.

i like the idea for the right price, adds experience and size into a pack that lacks both… Manly diehards have wraps on him, think he still got a little to offer imo

Agreed, if we could get the version Lodge that played for the Roosters it would be very beneficial for us

I feel fans myself included over exaggerate things for effect, was he really “rubbish” at manly? No, was he world class? No. He was depth and that was good enough.

Meanwhile at the Roosters he has a career revival and showed when motivated he can really go for it, as a depth option he is perfectly fine.

We live in a world where BRODIE JONES is a realistic option at prop if injury strikes and that’s a big problem

Also I don’t understand the idea of not wanting a grub player… Munster is a grub, Cameron Smith was a grub, JWH was a grub, never saw their fan bases not want to keep them, obviously I know this argument only exists looking in to other clubs and players and doesn’t happen internally, but we never not wanted a grub ourselves.

Gamble is a grub and yet he was heralded as being that “mongrel” that we needed and only started to have questioned raised when his skill couldn’t back it up, which echoes my point behind it doesn’t happen internally, because at the end of the day Gamble being a grub wasn’t questioned it was more that he wasn’t good enough

ps. I do however agree he was overrated at the Broncos.

There’s levels of grubs, Lodge is in another stratosphere to all those you’ve mentioned.

He does seem to be that similar destabilising force, even aside from his off field antics. Like Hastings, he can survive a season or so at a club, but after that things turn sour.

Not really the type of person we want at the club, right after getting rid of one, I think. Compared to Brown who is exactly the right sort of person we need for the culture of our club.

agreed if we want a culture other clubs crave gotta avoid sugar hits from plays like signing a mercenary with a checkered past, invest that playing time in the future.

Not sure I'd say Brown is "exactly the right person for the culture of the club," especially at that salary and with the expectations that'll come with it. Ideally that responsibility would be given to someone who's shown to be more of a leader. Seems a nice guy but has a history of being passive/cruisy which unfortunately could see him feeling right at home in Newcastle and at this club - not in a good way. Hopefully he's ready to take more control of the game, as both an individual player and as one of the most important players/voices in his team. Consistently.
