Recruitment And Retention Discussion

36 is old! He maybe be a DCE. But just as likely to only play to 33-34. IDK 10 years is just a silly contact. What do we do when we have unbalanced cap when he’s playing then? If he is playing!

Hunt 34, Reynolds 34 falling apart and barely on the felid last few years, Foz 34, heaps of years missing games. It just doesn’t make sense.

Offer him the same as Parra six years, but for more money, then after that either extend or move on.

Thats where medical retirement loopholes come in isnt it, player gets his wage, clubs get their capspace back. I dont think it would be a flat 10 year deal anyway , id expect some mutual options or triggers in it towards the back end.

So I wonder if we sign him, what could happen this year? If the Clubs would consider a straight swap of him for Braily. They have Volkam. Arther is off the bench for us. Any word on his injury?

Even if the Eels were willing to entertain a swap this season would we have the cap without moving someone else on? Can't see it happening myself.

Don’t think this year is an option so forget the swap.
Think if we sign him for 2026 we will have the cap space but agree 10 years seems a bit long, yes offer him a better deal than Eels, say $1.2m per season for the length of his current option, 6 years, he will earn $1m+ likely closer to $2m+ extra over the 6 years

Honestly as the days go on I find it hard to believe we will actually land him, he said he wants it done before round 1 and that’s in a few days, and if he plays his cards right he can resign with them or even just stay with them and he will come off good as “loyalty prevailed” and from there he can even use it as a “look clubs want me and I stayed loyal how about I get more money”

Realistically we should hear about him signed for us (if he did) in the next 4 days and I know the actual season for the rest of the comp starts next week but that’s technically round 1 so.

Isn't there a 10-day cooling off so even if Dylan does sign we won't hear about it until that's done (unless it gets leaked). A "no" doesn't require a cooling off period, so it could be no news is good news.

I think If the player knows themselves that they are definitely leaving than they can announce it but I’m not sure on that fully maybe someone here knows the rule better

New Brown update. A second club has apparently tabled a similar offer to the Knights which they report as being 10 years, $13m. The other club has apparently said their offer will be taken off the table immediately if their identity is revealed. Brown is happy at the Eels and the general thought had been that he will stay but the offers of this size have given him more to think about.

Once again says the Knights are ready to formalise their offer as soon as they're given reason to believe he's serious about leaving the Eels. Eels have been given the chance to match but still aren't budging.

Has until round 10 to take up option at the Eels but he wants it done in the next fortnight.

Starting to get the feeling we won't sign Dylan Brown. We'll probably end up signing Jamal Fogarty and a promising up and comer to take over Jamal after 2027.

Please no to Jamal. Just keep & play Cogs in that case lol.
Adam Reynolds would have been a much better suggestion but I'm not convinced he plays on unless the Broncos have a disastrous year again and wants a change of scenery.

Forgot: Toby Sexton would also be a better option than Fogarty.

This smells of a Manager tall tale to force the Knights or Eels to put a 10 year deal on the table. "We totally have a $13m offer but can't tell you who it is".

Or perhaps a club such as the Roosters sign him to 10 year contract for 13m, leaving us with less competition to sign the next quality half who comes available.

This is kinda what I think is happening too. It’s the second time they’ve reported about some mystery team and been super weird and specific about why their identity has to remain a secret. “There’s definitely a third team but don’t do any digging or try to figure out who they are or else they’ll disappear.”
