Pythian had a few good touches in his first game and was terrible in his 2nd. No way should he be playing fullback or be in our strongest 17 next season. If we can't sign anyone we'll have to put Gagai back there and put Sione back to the centres.

Phythian didn't do a fulltime preseason last year. He didn't even do a proper part time preseason because of injury. The year before he didn't do even an NYC pre season. They brought him up from Lakes halfway through the season.
In short, the guy has had next to no NRL level training and coaching except for sessions during the season.
The sky is the limit for how much he could improve during the off season. It could be a Saifiti like level of improvement from him. He starts from an even lower level of training than they did.

Once preseason wraps up let Brown do the paperwork and come round 1 80 minutes in we will see who deserves to be there.

Manly are now also in the race to sign Bird and are apparently set to give him a higher offer than us but if we do end up getting him (:-/) then I'd put him at lock, Buhrer to second row, Sione back to centre and shift Pete to wing or if Brown doesn't want to move Sione back then I'd have Buhrer on the bench. We still desperately need a fullback and a centre/winger because our backline looks very ordinary. Gone are the days when we once had too many backs. Personally I'd like to see Rossy at least get a crack at fullback, he looked great at centre with early ball and I think he'd chime in well at the back for us.

I'm still wanting Gagai to have at least one preseason training at fullback.
Everytime we played him there, it's usually halfway during the season when everything else has failed.
Fullback is one position you can't get away with without a preseason training there.
You need to get the ks in your legs.

Tom Trbojevic didn't do too bad without a NRL pre-season there.

Tom Turbo is a freakish talent and no doubt he would've done a couple pre-seasons training fullback for the 20s.
Gagai looked good at fullback last year too without training there before Stone moved him back to the centres.

I would love to see Meaney have a solid pre season and get a run at fullback.

Oh though my team doesn't have ross in the centres he provided a constant attacking threat when he played there.

Also does anyone else reckon Dennis will eventually end up in the forwards?

Denniss will definitely end up as a big centre or a second row forward. He is already 6'5" and 100kg and is only going to get bigger and probably slow down a bit.
In firstgrade his size and strength was well up to firstgrade standard, often doing some very powerful runs and making some very strong tackles.
He still has a lot to work on, as do all players with as little experience as him, but you can see he is going to be a beast - possibly as early as next season, after doing his first fulltime off season.
In under 20s he ended the season with a lot of try assists, not because he is very skilful, but because he was too big and strong to be tackled by one guy and when he went for a run he'd hold off one defender with one hand and pass to whoever he liked.

Denniss and Oates are going down similar paths, both starting out as wingers only to be groomed as an edge forward later on in their careers.

Denniss was the youngest guy we used last year, and he was very inexperienced.
Most guys who come in young have had heaps of rep games and some NYC behind them.
Sione came in at the same age, but he had played for NSW and Australia at every level and had already played a year of NYC and was a star at that level. He'd also done a firstgrade off season.
Denniss never played in a junior rep side before this year (he played under 20s this year) and had 3 games of NYC behind him.
He wasn't even a standout in Ball last year.
He's just a kid who grew into a powerful giant in recent times and now needs to learn a lot about playing football.
