Phoenix Crossland discussion

Yeah he has to be our biggest improver in the team bar none. Marzhew has been great, but the skills Crossy has developed see him go from beginner level to way beyond proficient.
Is he a top 10 hooked yet?

On bloke they were saying he could be top 5. They also mentioned if they had a Dally M for most improved he would get it.

Is rather get the "you used to suck but now dont" award, than the "you used to suck, you still suck, and you probably always will suck" award.

That last one is currently hanging up in Tariq Sims front room

You never know when a player has peaked, but logic says Crossland is still at the very start of his hooker career and must get better as it all comes as second nature to him as he spends off seasons training there and gets experience in games.
Having said that, if both Brailey and Crossland are fit, Crossland has to be our utility and cover other positions, because Brailey just plays hooker.

I used to be the biggest Crossland hater of all time, but tbh I would absolutely keep him in over Brailey. Brailey is a good leader, has a lot of heart, but doesn't really have any skill that is better than Phoenix, plus Phoenix is cheaper. I think this winning streak has shown that Crossland should be our 9 for the future.

you could mount a good case that Crossland is already more an attacking threat than Brailey. Certainly offers another kicking option.

That's a big IF , the track record over what is now a sustained period is not great at all. Be interesting to see what player he is upon his return from injury.

Honestly I think Crossland is already a head of Brailey better attacking ability, and his defence and effort are just as good as Brailey, not to mention he is much more durable and younger.

I would of been looking to keep Mann on a 12 month contract as a utility surely he would rather stay here winning games as a 14 then at bulldogs as a 14 losing.

Or even keep fa'amanu around for 12months as utility capable of playing back row or spelling crossy.

Give brailey plenty of time to recover and earn his spot back through reserve grade, if Crossland gets injured we have an nrl ready hooker if he gets another long term injury he may take the payout and retire.

You would expect the plan to play Brailey 9 with Crossland 14 and continuing his development with Jones and other coming along in 2 or so seasons. If Brailey stays fit we are strong in that position and Crossland is now better suited to playing 14 and if needed 9 than Mann is/was.

If he can continue to improve that'll be the most impressive thing he's done yet. 99.99% of talented players plateau once they reach a level sufficient to compete with their peers.

If he keeps going that'll be rare.

Phoenix just got a great wrap from Damien Cook, with Wade Graham backing it up on NRL360. Cook said he was one of the main reasons for the winning streak, and Graham said he brings the forward on to ball really. Good wrap from 2 Kangaroos.
wow that is high praise indeed coming from those 2.

Super happy for the young bloke, now he understands manifest reality the sky is the limit. Living the dream.
