Peter O'Sullivan Appreciation thread

Doesn’t seem to have set the Dolphins or Warriors back that he’s left. Cap is in good shape now, key parts are all there long term, now it’s just a matter of not messing it up.

Can certainly see the appeal for him in taking on another big job now the pieces are in place for us.

The bloke who was getting all the wraps for building that young side at the Raiders a year or two ago is Joel Carbone, and he already got poached by the Roosters.

This is why I wouldn’t ever say never with Holbrook getting poached. Knights/Wests can be willing to spend, but some clubs just can’t be competed with when they decide they want someone.

One way to look at it is we now have all the talented prospects we need and POS has done his job and is now getting big bucks for nothing.

The dollars we are spending on him could be better spent on a few more good coaches or trainers.

The best place for him to work is at a club that needs to rebuild their squad - not at a club who has enough prospects for the next 5 years.

Maybe we could make a booking for him to come back in 5 years time.

I assume he chooses teams that have untapped potential within their rosters and catchments, then just fine tunes it the way the good clubs have.

We should be fortunate he chose us and saw the potential in the roster on top of the talent we already have

The bloke lives up to his reputation

The QLD media guys like Dobbin and Badel (mouthpieces for the Broncos) are known to be a bit too in love with themselves and slurp the Broncos kool aid despite being wrong a lot of the time with their scoops/mail/gossip so don't be a surprised if this is one of them as well

The main problem is that from memory from his interview that he had almost set the squad up for the next 3 or so years
If he leaves, whoever we sign has the potential to look at that future and decide it’s not what he thinks is best and then we could start another round of roster tinkering
Eg Sully decided Nikuore was the man going forward as leader/mentor in squad and signed rumoured $500-600 and a new guy could instantly say no and force us to pay half that for next 3 years for him to play elsewhere

On the podcast interview he gave a few months ago he said he wanted this to be his last gig. He’s done such a good job, would be great to see out his contract and use the final years to put in place a continuity plan with a solid structure and the right people to make this a Knights dynasty for years to come.

Depends on the coach? The long term ones aren't team hoppers but probably have way more of a say. And we know Bennett's history. I think the dynamic here is good. Justin isn't really a rookie but POS's experience shines through.

You can probably find him saying similar things about his current employer during his time at the Dolphins and previous stops. Doesn't hold any more weight than when players say things like that, it's a business at the end of the day.

Can usually trust Barry Toohey to be on the money though.
Will be disappointed if POS was to leave, yes the roster is in good shape and we have plenty of great talent coming through, but I think the next 2 years could be all the difference. There’s a host of players off contract at the end of 2028, and POS has proven to be a wily negotiator. Have to see what Peter Parr reckons. He is contracted so something would have to change.

I actually have no problem with him moving around to different teams, I personally think he is good for NRL in general, if he can make weaker clubs better or even if he can just help with pathway systems for all teams that can only be a good thing for the game. He just needs to be a mr fix it for 1-2 years and move on, or maybe he can help multiple clubs at once.

With due respect I don’t care for other clubs, it’s Knights and then the rest, he is being head hunted by last years premiers and one of if not the richest clubs in the NRL to break contract, how’s that good for the game? If NRL had him help Perth sort their roster out so it’s was at least competitive I could live with it, but the broncos just take what they want with money again and screw the rest

Yes but its pretty obvious the Broncos have swooped in and offered him a fortune.

Yes what an amazing idea, let’s just give away the best recruiter in the sport for the good of the nrl, should we give a struggling team some players while we are at it?

I get that sentiment if he was going to the Eels, not last years premiers
