The guy who applies for a big money position and can make a case he is worth it.
Not the bunch of hacks we know are not worth big money.
If the right guy doesn't apply, we just go with some hack on low money and no contract till the right guy appears.
I'd make Frizz captain/coach before I'd give big money to another rookie because no one else is available.

AOB wasn't getting paid that much my man lmao, after all that chat about his massive payout the settlement he's getting is pretty modest.
I'm going to respectfully disagree with the idea that we should employ a coach we know will be bad on purpose because said coach will be cheap. I would love an explanation as to how this course of action could make a hypothetical future Craig Bellamy or Ivan Cleary poaching attempt more successful.

None of the available options would command big money anyway, and we're the only job available so won't be in a bidding war. I'd say just picking whichever "hack" sells the decision makers on the best future makes more sense than waiting around for a proven elite coach to decide they really want to coach the Knights.

It's a really ****ing hard, stressful job. A lot of the people who get it are really good footy minds but there's just something you have to have in your psychological makeup & how you relate to other people to be great at it. Eg a lot of what goes right and wrong on the job is totally out of your control, and you have to be okay with that. Clearly AOB as a person has been ground down to a nub and has aged 20 years, whereas somehow it seems to keep Wayne Bennett young. The great assistants who can't make the transition aren't "hacks". It's probably more accurate to say, they're not freaks. The top head coaches are the weird ones.
You pick the person you feel best about after interviewing all the candidates and hope it's the right one. If they're not, you try again to find the best possible person you can, again and again, till you get it right. And, ****, even if you do find the right person, what that often looks like is someone who holds the job for 8-10 years and wins one thing before they burn out. That's a really good outcome. Someone like Bellyache is a unicorn.

I would love for the club to show some ambition and ask Bellamy how much would it take. No harm asking the question.
We might finally get an answer to the question is the club fundamentally broken or is success actually achievable here?
I don’t get picking someone just because they’re cheap what would that achieve? It’s not coming out of our pockets so why would anyone care how much a coach costs. The only thing that matters is that they’re trying to win a comp. It costs whatever it costs. So if they throw the cheque book at the best current coaches and that doesn’t work then it should go to best available candidate.

Problem is, Bellamy is not leaving Melbourne to coach anywhere else. He will retire rather than coach another club.
Who else is there that you would say, that coach is that great coach we would want here?
Robinson? Good luck and he has struggled of late.
Wayne, ship has sailed and I doubt he would ever return, and I doubt the club would go for him, nor the fans.
Cleary? Not a chance he leaves Penrith where his son is.
We aren't throwing the cheque book at anybody that would be considered "great".
So we look at next level down coaches. We could go for a coach that has been through other clubs like BA, Holbrook, Morris etc, or we go for a coach external to the NRL that has coaching experience like Peters.
Then there is the real risky dice rolls like going straight for an assistance who has never coached a full team themselves like Green.
This chat about bringing in a great coach is just not realistic. Established great coaches are not leaving their clubs to coach Newcastle.
Peters I don't count as a real option, he just re-signed a deal at Hull and I think he is settled there.

Great that Hagan is on committee as he ticks all the boxes for having knowledge of every aspect. Coburn and Price have played so logical to have at least two wests board members. Reservations about Parr contribution but this Chris James fellow has sweet F A background and might struggle to come up with one insightful question to ask in interviews.
At least wests have engineering a fall guy in Hagan.

Chris James is a former nrl referee and behind the scenes he has worked closely with Roosters for a few years as a football operations manager, Parr has been a long standing person in league at both DoF and general manager.

3 names in the frame currently - Holbrook, Green & Young. Buzz says Willie Peters "might come into it but not at this stage," and indicates he just doesn't want to go through the process so would basically need to be offered the job.
Buzz's choice is Dean Young. Brent Read likes Blake Green (worth noting Read has always been the media mouthpiece for Ponga). They go back and forth and I wouldn't say either did a good job at making a strong case for their pick.

There is no one who's opinion i respect less than Rothfield's.
Until the end of 27 at least, Ponga is our key player. If he is on board with Green, I would be strongly considering this option. Green knows the thinking behind the Brown deal and it sounds like he played a pretty big part in that 23 run. If ths club goes that way, I'll fully understand why.
