Official: Trent Hodkinson signs with the Sharks

Good luck to him.
He probably suffered the most damage to his reputation of anyone from playing with our weak roster.
When he played reserve grade you could see how much better he goes with a forward pack that holds it's own.
He'll probably do good if he gets a run at Cronulla, especially against us - he'll have the game of his life against us.

Good bloke, but not a good footballer, long way from SOO to not wanted ar clubbwithb3 spoons, can't believe how his career has gone, obviously his knee(s) have held him back, wish him well but not against knights even if its reserves.
Overall makes you think he was overrated as a footballer but not as a person.

Happy to the see end of him, not because he cant play... He just didn't really try here... never kicked the ball always passing and hardly took the line on... maybe 2 or 3 decent games was outplayed by the younger halves

Good luck Hodko and he can't be blamed for us buying him at top dollar when his knees were shot. Let the buyer beware as the saying goes. Footy players do not come with warranties.

Wish him the best of luck, glad he is gone as we don't need him taking up a spot in the lower grades we are better off having a development player in. Let him take up space on Cronulla's roster.

Came here under great fanfare, never delivered even 10% of his promise here.

Glad to see the back of him. Obviously a good person but was terrible on the field for us for the money he’s on.

Can't forgive him for that Dogs game, and it took Brown months as well, really showed his attitude towards us at that point.

So we have another 300k or so to spend - added to the million or so already reported.
I suspect the next big name outside back that comes on the market will get an offer.

Imo we should chase Latrell Mitchell, big money play 2 year deal. That'll be the premiership winning addition imo

Cant really think of anyone else I'd be excited to have...

Absolutely, he's a hell of a kid. If he has a big season he'll be commanding some big dollars.

Don't think the Roosters will let him go willingly, but maybe he could be swayed by having some former players to link up with here.

CLUB STATEMENT

The nib Newcastle Knights have granted Trent Hodkinson’s request for a release from the final year of his contract, effective immediately.

Hodkinson joined Newcastle in 2016 and he has played 40 NRL matches for the Club.

“Trent has been an excellent role model for our young players,” General Manger Football Darren Mooney said.

“He is a well-respected teammate and contributed immensely to our community program.

“We understand Trent’s decision to leave the Club and we wish him and wife Chantelle all the best for the future.”

Think the wording of the club statement was well put, emphasis on person rather than player, allows a clean break with no animosity. Best of luck to him.

Finding yourself as the 5th choice half at the club with maybe one contract left before retirement is a fair enough reason to leave early.

Hope Trent gets to go out on his own terms playing first grade rather than languishing as a backup.

Good luck fella!

Frees up a nice spot for the Lamb & Cogger show in reserve grade, also Jack Johns gets a shot after injuries.

I dreamt a couple months ago we signed him after we were signing all the Roosters boys & becoming the Newcastle Roosters. To think we legit signed him & seeing him shown off by the club in a Knights jersey to fill that last centre spot really did conjur thoughts of whether we could go the whole way. We'd have to be some sort of chance at him, close to home, plenty of ex teammates, there's been rumours he was leaving the Roosters for about a year now.
