Official: Trent Hodkinson signs with the Sharks

If the Sharks are willing to offer a one year deal I imagine we'd negotiate a release with him that just frees up cap space, not sure if there's anything more we'd be able to demand.

Will make our cap situation worse, not spent enough, if we let him go but coach has said he would not hold him back unlike Cogger. By saying that I would assume we have no leverage re obtaining a swap.

anyone at the sharks we would entertain a player swap with? obviously a fringe first grader

If not for his attitude Fifita would be a handy signing. Other than Graham, Capewell or Feki, nobody else springs to mind worth chasing.

If he can score a starting spot, I'd be happy for Hodko to get an early release. He's a top bloke, all class especially off the field. Can't begrudge him one last payday.

Handy signing? He's the best prop in the world lol

Id swap nearly anyone of our players for him

Get rid of hodko if we can. He is just taking up a spot another development player needs. Hell, he is done after this year anyway, just bench him and move on. We are better off putting players on the field who can develop for us.

The blokes on somewhere between 600k-800k. Crazy money for a reserve grader who can kick goals. If we can free him and in turn be 1.8 million under the cap then we are sitting pretty when players become free agents during the season. Having said that I’d be willing to bet that we’ll still need to pay a chunk of his contract.

Big risk though, we need to be confident that we can sign 1 million+ worth of players mid-season, which is a pretty big ask. Don't wanna be forced to have to prepay our own players millions. Doubt anyone will take him off our hands without us paying at least half though.

Atleast half you'd assume, maybe we can trade that for Uate back.

Lmao, the club has finally rid itself of individual game losers like Gagai and Uate. We can now look forward to a dependable and solid defensive line that doesnt have a frequent tendency for errors at critical moment's

He can stay at Manly. His form had slipped by the second half of the season anyway. Same old same old from Uate

Under the circumstances we've been operating under, it's not reasonable to expect the NRL to enforce those rules on us. We've spent as much as we could as smart as we could, and all to the benefit of the players -- which I suspect is the logic driving the rule -- even in the case of releasing Hodko, we would be contributing to the welfare of a player and doing so without trying to be duplicitous

The NRL is quite bureaucratic when it comes to the enforcement of rules off the pitch

If things are desperate in terms of spending cash this season maybe Brown could tempt Choc with a lazy million to make a late season cameo.
That stunt would be worth the price of admission

(and no, I'm not being serious ;))

If we still have a large sum of money sitting around by the time the NRL needs us to be in line with the cap, I would have no issues with Brown & Mooney giving Mundine a shot on a 500-600k contract. Big risk to start with, but I have no doubts he would be worth it once he got used to playing again. Say what you will about the personality he portrays in the media, but he was undoubtedly one of the best players running around when he was playing. Play him off the bench to ease him back, then if all's going well move him into the halves with Watson covering Levi at hooker & Griffin back to reserves.
