Official: Knights sign Rory Kostjasyn on a 2 year deal

Very good signing. His a premiership winner and a very experienced hooker. Could also play as a utility.

Our playmakers are now, Mullen, Hodkinson, Kostjasyn. Very good spine and experience to lead us forward.

I'd be playing Kost/Mullen at hooker next year with Levi in reserves. Brown talks about increasing competition for position so this will do that. Play Lamb at 5/8. It won't do Levi any harm spending another year in the reserves learning.

He can fill in when inevitably Mullen gets injured.

actually wouldnt mind seeing this in trials to see how it goes!
1 ?
6 Lamb
7 Hodko
9 Mullen
14 Kostjasyn

Mullen played awesome at hooker last round imo!

Brown seems to have a real thing about the number 9 position (I didn't say he is obsessed with hookers this time).
Redman, Clydsdale, Randell, Bhana, Pearsall, Levi, Mullen, Adams, Phythian, Kosjaysyn.
It's like he wants a new hooker every week.

In reserve grade we have seen Freeman, Joey Morris, Ben Stone, the kid we brought down from the Qld cup who only got about 3 or 4 games and I think Jake McNamara.

maybe being a former hooker himself he sets high expectations

The funny thing is, he was a very old style hooker. He didn't have much in common with a playmaking hooker like the ones we see now.
He was from the era when hookers were the toughest guys on the field, but basically only shovelled the ball out to the halves from dummy half all day.
Bedsy had 10 times the skills that Brown had.

Bedsy had more skills and vision than most hookers hope we can get one as good as he w as

The thing about Kostjasyn is he is high effort. He gives good ball service from the ruck and is always looking to tackle. He might not be that exciting signing fans enjoy seeing at clubs, but he is what we need. The transition to a routinely competitive team has to go through the "grinding out wins stage" and he is that type of player.

Oh and if Mullen is gone next year, which I doubt, so be it. He's been a great club man, but to be honest the Knights would be better off at this point if he did leave.

Kostjasyn's service from dummy half is horrendously slow. It's painful to watch.

He will give 1000% effort for every second he is on the field though there is no doubting that.
