NRLW Recruitment & Retention Thread

Don’t see too many signings a year in advance in the NRLW yet so I’d say it’s seen as a significant one by the club. She’s very highly rated. Only 18 now but was the starting hooker for the Blues u/19’s last year before debuting and playing half a dozen games for the Dragons. Bit of an Emma Manzelmann type, would be nice to get her here early and have her off the bench before taking over from Higgins.

It makes more sense we let leah Ollerton go if we had a younger and potentially better player in mind.
I think Higgins has been playing injured for a while, so we probably need to find a replacement.

Yeah hopefully able to get here here for 26 season. Dragons signed two 9's over her for this season.

2 years good time as it gives time for Charley Lahmert and Ellerzae Ellers to keep progressing in lower grades. both very well regarded but quite young.

Good pick up by club.

Keighley Simpson to the Roosters.
Hard to know if that is good or bad.
She showed enough in her first year of League for you to want to see what she does in year 2, but not enough to offer her more than Tess Staines, Lilly White or Evie Jones.

Fane Finau being named for Maori all stars would be her biggest honor so far.

Funny how she seemed to be over looked for almost a year and since finally making her firstgrade debut she has gone from strength to strength to strength.
I hope she gets to play centre in the all stars game - we could do with a try scoring centre more than another second row.

I'm not sure how a girl born in Tonga who has played for Tonga qualifies for a Maori side, but they would have checked I suppose.

For all Gardner’s faults he made the women’s team being good a priority. Parr came on board midway through the second premiership season, just in time to be smiling in all the celebration photos, then immediately moved the coach on and headhunted his mate from the Cowboys (who were delighted to see the back of him). What’s happened since has been an unmitigated disaster. Can only assume he just doesn’t care.

Yasmin Meakes is a saint for sticking around and trying to bring some semblance of leadership and professionalism to the women’s program because there’s certainly none coming from anyone above her.

Completely agree with everything you said.

With Parr as CEO what chance do we have of getting rid of Jeffries.

Have to say Parr’s done nothing to fill me with confidence. Don’t think Cows fans were disappointed to see the back of him either. From what I’ve heard all the good moves happening at the club currently are coming from Chris James and POS.

Jeffries is a culture over everything guy in a competition where the gulf between an elite player and an average one is as massive as it was in the 70's NSWRL. And in that environment he's alienated a girl who's potentially NRLW Ron Coote to the point where she's gotten an early release. Good stuff Ben.

I look forward to more top drawer culture & effort vs the Roosters & Broncos in games where they barely get out of second gear and beat us by 20 anyway.

The girls aren't on big money.
You pretty much have to let them go if they want to.
Most of them have to work at something.
Knights seem to have the most turnover of players, but every team seems to have players coming and going all the time.
Really sad to lose Jesse, Sheridan and Evah this year - almost as bad as losing Tamika, Hannah, Caitlan and Rima last year.

Anyway - the NRLW needs to find a way to keep players at clubs. Every team losing big names every year must damage the brand in the long run. I know a lot of Knights fans are over it, and other fans must feel the same way.

NRLW has the A league feel about it. I followed the jets for years but it eventually feels like a transit lounge and you lose interest. At least with football the young guys who move on are trying their luck making it big overseas. In the nrlw it is usually to head to one of the big two.
