Just going through some more stats, we're third last on average kicking metres, and top of the table on average handling errors with 14 per game. Bulldogs are best with 6.8 per game.

Bulldogs average 792 kicking metres per game, we average 477.

Yes we're playing a more attacking style, but those numbers are going to kill any side. Execution needs to massively improve.

On the upside we have the third most average linebreaks per game, with 6.3. If we pay attention to detail and do those basics, we have plenty of points in us.
 
I hope Gambor is back and at least gives AOB a selection choice at 7...IDK that the Knights can win too many games with Cogs sucking ferociously.

I also hope Marz has got that one out of his system, and teams can go back to attacking him aerially and getting no result.

I think we were #1 for running metres though (cheers Braddy & Greggy) so a lot of it might just be not needing to make many long kicks.

I thought AOB completely hit the nail on the head in the presser saying that the spine went in with the wrong attitude and tried to play around the Titans to go for the easy kill without setting it up first. Of course that’s bad but this side isn’t used to winning in round 1, they’re definitely not used to winning their first 2, especially trying attacking football…they got ahead of themselves. They’ll learn from it.

All I’m saying is that if you want to write us off after the Titans game, you probably need to also write off 13 of the other teams as well as very few have played consistently good football. Like Gus Gould says, you don’t really know if it’s going to be a good or bad season until around round 7… by then most teams would have won a game and most would have lost one.

Great points mate & I think something which gets lost in how people talk about this stuff

I contrast this with the Raiders, who usually start the season well, and always win x number of games per year via effort and attention to the 1%ers.

But: they never really have any sort of attacking system they’re building towards & building on. It’s all just: bash away, don’t make errors, push up in support, get to the kick, get bodies around the kick… but what are the repeatable attacking actions they develop over a season, their go to stuff in attack in the opposing half? Do they ever win a game without getting out of second gear?
 
The thing with the Titans game though, is we could easily have smashed them if those chances we were squandering in the first half came off. Yeah we tried to go around them, but it was working for the most part with a bunch of good scoring opportunities that we blew. Those stick and we likely go in at the break in front, and possibly kick on from there.

OB would be sitting there saying how well they did instead.

I just hope he isn't going to force the team back in to a boring grind fest of a team he tends to favor. Our best season with him as coach, came from a long winning streak of exciting attacking footy, attack from anywhere on the field stuff, confidence. Not 5 percentage play hitups and a chip bomb to the sideline to wrap them up and negate their play 1 kick return endlessly.

And I doubt he will be back for this one, but Gamble and his grit would suit this game brilliantly.

Think you are completely missing my point......one week we look great, then we look completely lost. Our good and bad are miles away, you don't win a premiership being this inconsistent.

I don't care if we lose, as long as we don't beat ourselves, make the opposition work hard and play their best to beat us.

What's the point in making the finals just to make up the numbers.

Dogs for example have gone from really crap, then made the finals last year, and this year have started on fire and look to be even better than they were last year. They are missing key players yet still winning....we couldn't beat the titans with our guns playing.

I agree with most of this. We were however, missing 3 starting forwards and our best half against the Titans. So definitely not full strength.

Agree, we weren't full strength but were still rolling them early on and had plenty of good ball and should have scored quite a few but failed to do so.

This is literally what the first few weeks of the entire competition is about. Like I said, if you’re going to write us off, you’d might as well also write off most of the teams as very few have been consistent. Even the team leading the comp in the Dogs were really average against the Eels last week, and probably would have lost if they were playing literally any other team.

Teams will start to find their feet and the good teams will rise to the top and the others won’t. Will we be a good team or a bad team? Only time will tell, but it’s way too early to make a call on us, just as is it most of the comp who have also been inconsistent.

At what point did I say I'm writing them off? Just said I'm sick of the inconsistency between good games and bad.

Dogs were horrible against the eels yet got the job done....we lost to a horrible titans team yet we were all over them in the opening stages.

Melbourne lost yesterday but we're still in the fight, they played horrible yet we're still with a chance. We didn't fire at shot at the titans.

When you’re saying that alarm bells are ringing in round 3, that suggests to me that you’re feeling pretty negative about how we’ll do this year. I’m not saying that we’ll do good or bad, just that I think it’s way too early to be too negative on us in round 3, particularly when we won our first 2 games.

Yes the Titans game was bad, but most of the other teams have had at least 1 bad game early on too. I’m just going to wait and see how it plays out. I think having one of those games right before a bye is worse because fans have double the time to stew on it. In reality nobody is going to remember a round 3 game at the end of the year. I’m way more interested in how we bounce back from it, not that it happened to begin with.

To clarify, when I said alarm bells are ringing it was to do with the fact we are still inconsistent seeing this squad has been together for quite a while.

But I do agree with your other points, hopefully we come good and we can all forget about the round 3 game.
