AOB now has an 80% finals ratio I believe.
I have to eat my share of humble pie here and give credit where credit is due. I said weeks ago on this forum that we wouldn’t get near playing finals football and placed the blame at Obi’s feet.
I was wrong and bow to a much better brand of football, with some really gritty defence.
Congratulations Knights and good job Obi.

The 4th tackle hit ups are deliberate, other teams do it too. It’s to keep the forwards all in the defensive line for the kick chase.

I understand the logic but I don’t think KP taking hit ups on the 4th tackle with his head knock history, unless it’s against a retreating defence. Andrew Johns mentioned it in the commentary as well, saying he didn’t like KP being used that way

I was saying this in the stands.

It's a waste of his talent and a risk running him in to the D for an easy 4th tackle hitup. Better off with Greg doing that one as he is better at hitting the line with some power and generating a fast play the ball anyway.

We made it, lets see how we go now before forgiving OB.

If we are out first week, to me that isn't anything to be getting excited about, especially if we get soundly beaten.

As James said, we have made the finals several years now with OB, now it's time to show some of that maturity from the team and put in a strong performance up there.

Then, once this season is done, lets see how we start next season, and through the middle period to after the Origin period and see how we are going then. Thats when I'm ready to forgive.

Next year, with the same squad, or with OB's replacements, I expect to go top 6, or it's really just more of the same.

Well Greg generally does the first or second hitup. But get what you’re saying. Get one of the backs to do that hitup.

Looking at the ladder our home wins were poor this yr, it if we had 2 more wins at home at a minimum for this yr at least, we’d be sitting 6th, vying for top 4. It’s not, not achievable for next yr all it takes is to nail 3 more wins and your suddenly vying for the edge of the top 4.

I feel quite confident in the teams mental ability to upset North QLD this week and pre Italy Sharks week after. You’re right we need to show we learned some finals footy prep from last season. The boys looked dialled in, mentally happy, let’s see if it can carry us into second week of finals and ride some momentum and confidence.

That's a weird way of saying it's achievable

We need to find a way to keep Marz fit in the off season.
He is fit as a trout right now, and even starting to do a bit of his share in defence - but came back 10kg overweight for pre-season and took half the season to get back to 2023 levels and is now at career best.
I'd hate for all his gains to be lost in the off season again.

I get you point Billy, but I think the concept goes to the whole squad. AOB needs to work out how to get the squad up for the early/mid season, we are repeatedly slow to get going.

Maybe after last year's 10 straight into this year's start, the squad will now know that it won't just happen. They need to get early wins on the board to be a top of the table contender.

Not certain I would have taken Crossland off for Gamble. Maybe take Brailey off and put Crossland in to dummy half. I sort of got the feeling that we lost our way a bit around about this time, maybe it coincided with Crossland going off, not sure.

I never like changing halves mid-game and agree it did change momentum away from us a bit. But also Crossland is liable to start giving away a lot of penalties when he gets fatigued, so I think it was a good move from that point of view.

I’ll talk about this season and next season when finals run finished, but is it 4/5 season we’ve made a big final season push to make the 8, last year finishing higher but being pretty spent by end of it.

Next season really needs to be seen as a season where the team stays solid in the 8 for entire season, fans we hill to admit it and at certain points coaches need to bring the attacking game out to beat better teams, but AOB ball running into finals this yr and up against Cows this weekend is the perfect ball and the boys are executing it perfectly.

The only catch to next season is what they end up doing squad wise. Seen it’s taken KPP this whole season to get it an understanding of his game.

Making the final eight really doesn't mean jack if we don't put in a performance next week like we did yesterday. In previous years we have bowed out of the finals without a whimper. Last year our finals loss to the Warriors was very average and we certainly didn't look like a team that was on a winning streak.
