Crazy in the fact that the Dragons could potentially be knocked out with a week to spare yet they're in 8th position now with a 2 point buffer on everyone.
 
anyone hear the O'Brien presser. Still harping on not contesting kicks, even though it's a gripe everyone has against us - says it shows we weren't defensive minded. Does this bloke realise that attack is one half of the game? There's a reason we're last in attack, because he seems to want to stick to this "gritty, grindy" football. Maybe he'll realise the attack needs work in a year. We have more than plenty attacking players to be last in that aspect.

I thought the exact same thing! We need to win games and score points which means we have to be attack minded. I'm not saying don't get lazy in defence but you only win games when you have more points than your opponent after 80 minutes.

What press conference was it? Post the Souths game? Or lead up to this one?
 
To be fair to AOB exactly what he said did happen, they made a few half breaks off our kicks that led to South’s scoring points.
 
We aren’t the only team who does it but we probably do it the most. The Panthers do it a lot, they were even doing it with 3 minutes to go losing against the Storm a few weeks ago.
 
Dire is a great word for OB's ccoaching.

I just think OB ball isnt going to work as he cant get the team competing at the intensity grinding requires.

Defensive sets have to be fast off the line high energy and good in the wrestle to stop teams making ground on their attacking set.

We cant do this.

Then, the payoff for that grinding is good chances in attack, which you need a well oiled attacking machine to take advantage of.

OB for mine thinks the concept of grinding is a focus on going set for set, kick to the corners and shut down kick returns and that will secure the win.

Has he considered it’s possible to do both. He acts like they’re mutually exclusive things. It is possible to contest a kick while also being mindful of your defence if you don’t come up with the ball.

He’s essentially saying they’re incapable of contesting a kick without giving the opposition a quick transition.

He’s right, they do often concede breaks from contested kicks. The question is why? Isn’t the coaches job to make sure they get better at things like this.

It is possible to contest a kick, miss it, but not concede a break. Why, aren’t they capable of this?

Absolutely, you can have one or two players competing the kick while the others wait a metre or two behind.

Kyle is a compulsive leaper.
First thing I noticed about him in Ball 2 years ago is he times his leaps really well and comes down with the ball most times. You could say it's his signature move. A lot of his tries come from out leaping his opponent. Mitch Henderson loved to kick for him last year.
Being a tall guy from the south coast, he has probably played a bit of AFL.

At times the Knights play like they couldn’t care about the result, they get paid anyway. Is Newy a retirement home environment for players? Are we so casual that any level of effort will do? Is there no real connection in the team? Are players dirty on the highest paid player(s)? Is the coach unable to develop all the roster players at skill development or as a personal mentor?
Is there a poor attitude, culture or drug issues at the Knights? Or is it that we just don’t have the cattle to be a consistent top 4 side?
It seems like our mediocre record without a “Joey” type player is the rule, rather than the exception over the last 2 decades and that nobody in the front office has been able to fix things, thinking that doing the same thing over and over will get a different result.
In that time, we get a score of 1.5 out of 10 for “front office” leadership.
And Jack Gibson said you will win nothing if the front office isn’t right.
How true!

I honestly believe they care about the result. They want to win, they want to win the premiership.

I just don't think they are given the right motivation and tools to get the best from them.

We have a Joey type player right now! Ponga might never be talked about as a g.o.a.t, but I believe that is only because he signed here and not with a top contender. Can you imagine if Ponga had of signed with Melbourne from Cowboys, he would have had a very different career!

Anyway, Ponga is a generational player. Get him in good ball position and he makes things happen, even though the defence knows what he can do, he does it anyway. We have a few players capable of that sort of thing, Best, KPP also if given the ball in good air, not 1 foot from the defence.

As I said plenty, we don't utilise him well at all.

Our attack is hit the middle, pass it either to the left or right edge around the scrumlines, and if nothing doing, take the tackle, then return to the middle and give it to a slow lumbering forward to reset. Rinse repeat. And this process of passing it to the scrumlines is typically done in slow motion, with little line speed, poor decoy runners and nobody running at the line before passing to even give the defence any doubt.

It's boring and predictable and easily defended.
 
final round of reserve grade will be on nswrltv tonight at 7.30 pm.
Could be the last time Hastings plays for the Knights if rumours are true.

I felt sick saying this but wish he would go to a club that can showcase his talents, if we can't consistently
