NRL Round 25 - Knights Vs Sea Eagles - 3:00pm Saturday, 22nd of August - McDonald Jones Stadium

I did say McCarthy if Best was out.
Never seen Winter on the left - don't think Hunt is at his best on the left either.
McCarthy plays left centre every game.

Before the team was named I was wondering who we would name as Manuleulua's replacement... How did I forget about Friz?? 😅

Most teams would dream of having him as a back up backrower lol

2 things from me, god i hope Friz reminds us of how much of a premier back rower he use to be this weekend!
And as for the Hopwood / Crouch discussion, i think Hopwood has the higher ceiling and is the better player at the moment… but Crouch is the better man for a bench role easily IMO. I think Hopwood is out long term JSaf replacement for sure, but Crouch, his big body and leg drive screams bench impact prop, so as for who i’d be picking, would vary on what role is needed to fill

How is McCarthy more experienced? Hunt has played 28 first grade games now and McCarthy’s played 6 - aren’t first grade games ultimately what matters?
He is more experienced playing against men, has been centre in Cup for a while, Hunt has played more 1sts but is more a winger and Winter has had half a game in firsts, both Hunt and Winter are more suited to right side where McCarthy is left side and I was responding to Billy’s post although I may not have made that clear.
Experience is acquired and McCarthy has been acquiring that at centre more than Hunt and Winter who I have no doubt will surpass him in the near future, if Best was out my pick would be McCarthy, if Gagai is out then it’s Winter or Hunt

Why would the club do that when they have made it very clear that he is not in their plans for next season. POS is the best judge of talent in this country and obviously doesn’t rate him and it appears Holbrook has the same view. They obviously want McCarthy’s top 30 spot for Frizell. Hunt and Winter are well ahead of him.
As far as I am aware, we currently have 2 spots available in our top 30 for next year.

It’s been reported that the issue with resigning Frizell, is being able to offer him a decent amount of money.

I do hope we can hang on to him. He’s has been so good and still is. Dane started on the cliffs edge last year but Frizz just keeps on going. He is certainly teaching the young bucks how it’s done. I hope we also keep him as a coach or consultant post career.

Barry Toohey when asked several days ago why there has been no further news on Frizell resigning stated that it’s “a waiting game”. Could mean either the availability of additional money or a top 30 spot. My understanding from Toohey is that all top 30 spots are currently taken for next season, as he was also asked whether the recent medical retirement of Will Sullivan opened up a spot and he said it’s already been taken.

I keep a record of our roster and update each time a signing is announced.

I have a Newcastle Herald subscription and read all of Toohey’s articles.

I'd wager McCarthy won't be here in 2028
They tried to flick him this season but he took up the option in his favour for next season.

If he wasn't contracted for this season it's possible POS would've moved him on last season. We have no use for 21/22 yo backs who arent ready to standout in FG, what's the point? The club doesn't exist to further their professional development. The purpose of the Junior system is to sort through hundreds of players to find the maybe, one player, each year, that is capable of benefiting the FG team. It's been pretty obvious for a little while now that McCarthy wasn't going to take a spot off anyone in FG
