NRL Round 25 - Knights Vs Sea Eagles - 3:00pm Saturday, 22nd of August - McDonald Jones Stadium

Yeah Sandon has a big job to sort out his defence. As others have said it’s not just contact, it’s technique and decision making very poor.
I thought our defence/contactwas poor, and we were all round pretty soft. No one really taking the tough runs, bar Marz and Saifiti.
Hopefully a good wake up call, although I reckon Manly did a great job of exposing a lot of our weaknesses. Eg Sandons defence, how to shut down ponga, Marzew under high ball, and tough physical defence.
As a random thought I wonder if a home final is that beneficial to us. We seem to play poor on the big occasions, and when we’re short favourites. Bit like Queensland in origin, backs against the wall team.

Disappointing day for the club, to go 0/3 when we were probably expecting to 3/3 is a real shame.
I did think we might have a game like that, was thinking it would probably be next week against the Wahs. Hopefully it’s a bit of a wake up call and we’ve got it out of our system.

Couple things that irked me really bad was taking the 2. Had manly on the ropes. We're getting calls go out way and boom take the 2. Drop it in the lead up to the next set then concede 3 tries in 5 minutes😲🤦‍♂️. Then the Dom one in goal.......why he didn't attempt to catch that ball is still baffling, like full head scratching moment. Did he think it was grubbered or something?

McEwen’s dropped ball after the penalty, hate to single him out, but it was such a turning point.
True. From that dropped ball everything turned to ****e. It was really hard to watch live at the game. It was almost comical and seemed to happen in slow motion.
Every game is tough in the NRL, and lately the Knights seem to get ahead and self destruct with an impossible pass, fail to shut down second phase play or just click off.
It happened last week as well.
The Knights need to fix these errors quickly or be canon fodder in the finals.

We really missed having a running backrower on the left.
No space for Ponga or Best because no one was worried about Frizell or Can’t
Yep good data point for my belief that ultimately the guys who play further in will be much harder to replace than Dom & Bradman, as good as those guys are.

When we’ve had two out of Lucas, Francis and Jermaine on our edges, we’ve just looked so much more dangerous. The game looks a lot easier. Dom & Braddy are better/more accomplished player right now than Francis and Jermaine, but if we could secure one of those edges till the end of 2032 right now I’d be doing cartwheels. Whereas if we locked ourselves into one of those outside backs for that long I’d stress about what it cost us.

Kalyn swinging around the outside of a scary lead runner with okay options outside him is more dangerous than him swinging around the outside shoulder of an okay lead runner with scary options outside him.

No he is not a first grade NRL player and we can all see that atm.
What am I missing here?
I don’t love this thing where we all decide to rip apart our depth players being asked to do a big job when things go wrong. The dude’s probably on close to minimum wage and he’s injury cover. I thought he was one of the few who defended with real intent so maybe that’s why he got a contract and he’s trusted when needed.

The defence was up fast on Ponga, virtually offside, and it worked, he sometimes got the ball away but tackled and unable to backup potential break, it was obviously a tactic for Manly and disjointed our attack, created poor or error passes that handed Manly the ball. We needed to slow up and be more selective with passes using Ponga as a dummy and playing others. Manly didn’t beat us Foran did with a nothing to loose attitude

Someone from Manly

Most if not all, of those are on the touchie and as we know, the touchies in the NRL have their eyes painted on.
The touch judges are missing so many rule infringements that we may as well have them in the dugout during the game and have them run with their flags to behind the posts as the kicker kicks for goal.
And after the screw up several weeks ago where they BOTH ruled no goal when for the millions of TV watches it obviously was a goal, what more can be said!
Our current officiating is nothing short of a joke.

Has anyone mentioned how good Manly played and how much the bounce of the ball went their way. How much luck can a good team defend against. A try from a falcon, like, what.
Blind flick passers that hit players on the chest. Did someone say forward pass. Yes we all seen it.
Helter skelter footy at its luckiest, that is what I saw. Of all teams to beat us it had to be manly.
That was a hard watch and next week will be even harder but we are playing great footy, when we get it right.
Go the Knights what a great year it has been.

So I don't normally post after games. Never during. And I haven't read any of the posts so far, I'm dreading doing so later. But for context. Im 44, I've been a member for nearly 20 years, and I attend nearly every game. That's the 3rd or 4th time in all those years I've felt compelled to walk down to the tunnel and give the officials a gob-full. Ill re-watch the game soon, but so so so many forward passes that either directly led to, or on the next tackle led to tries. I know we need to be better, and defend errors and refs calls. But there where so many today. And to cop that last forward pass call against us, after playing against an NFL team all game, that was rough. Anyway, still stoked on the season, but we really need to give the warriors a shake now or we are limping into the finals

Just finished watching the game having not being able to watch it live but knowing the final result. If I didn't already know the result I would've thought we were going to put 50 on them after 25 minutes then they clocked off. Couple of points that have already been mentioned. I know the game was probably already gone but what the hell was Dom thinking not catching the ball. It's not like it was a contested bomb, he just had to catch the bloody thing for a 7 tackle set restart, surely he knows that. Is that the Rugby League game awareness of some players. How has Sandon Smith made it this far in football and yet his defence be so so bad. I thought Best was MIA for most of the game. Not wanting to bag Cant but I'd like to see another forward take his spot next week. Someone who could potentially make a break or do something. Let's just hope Warriors have an off night cause I can't see us getting close to them on both teams performances today.
