NRL Round 23 - Knights Vs Raiders - 2:00pm Sunday, 9th of August - GIO Stadium

I think saying KP sucks at goalkicking is pretty harsh. Sharks game weather was terrible and all his kicks were hard. The only finals game we have won since he was here was by 2 points and off the back of him kicking them from all over the place.

I don’t think it’s harsh at all, currently he is bad at it, ever since he hit that 19 in a row he hasn’t been that good at it, if we talk about how good someone used to be than you could throw Sandon in as well as when Walker wasn’t kicking at the Roosters it was him and he was kicking very well.

I remember when it was announced we signed him a lot here rejoiced at the fact he is a goal kicker but he has also gone to the crapper, fact of the matter is both couldn’t hit water falling out of a boat at the moment and I’m never confident with either of them taking it

Yeah for me he's the first choice at the moment. We do score a lot on the sideline, but he's pretty reliable in kicking the ones he should. I'm happy with that, unless a real sharp shooter emerges from somewhere in our squad.
 
Don't wanna turn this into one of my patented rants but someone kicking at 75% or 80% doesn't mean they are gonna reliably hit 3/4 or 4/5 every game... kickers have good and bad runs of form like they do with other aspect of their game, and randomness is clumpy. A 75% kicker hitting 10/10 in one game and 2/6 in the next is kicking like you'd expect them to.

Remember when Mitch Barnett used to kick goals? Lol

Makes you appreciate guys like Joey and Cameron Smith kicking at a 75% ish and something like 1,200-1300 attempts (which no one else can say they’ve done) despite getting a lot of touches in between in games being a spine player, you’d still back Joey to kick a sideline conversion either side for your life on the buzzer down a point.

Might be an uptick with more tries being scored and the freakish tries wingers score these days but I reckon so long as the guys have the coach’s backing they’ll make them more often then not when it counts.
