NRL Round 20 - Knights Vs Sharks - 6:00pm Friday, 17th of July - Ocean Protect Stadium

I've been hearing how good Jones is for a decade despite what I've been watching on the field. It's strange how such a brilliant player somehow always seems to be off-contract and in such little demand that the Knights can pick him back up for another season just before pre-season kicks off. Has happened at least twice now.

Hopefully he plays like that one game against the Sharks in 2021 or the last couple of months of 2024 and not like the other 80 games of his career.

Id say he has been the best middle in cup since he returned. Every squad needs these bottom end players who can do a job when required. id happily keep him around at min wage if it was possible given our forward stocks are still pretty thin and hopwood is imo still a yr or 2 away from being the player we need week in week out.

I can remember a handful of games where he was decent, promising, and put in good effort. But generally thought he was a spirited toiler. Hopefully I’m wrong and he brains it on Friday.

Its the fact that he is always supporting the play, not enough middles do this because their jobs are to run as decoys, but once the play goes past Jones has always continued on. He also loves the contact of the game and was potentially misused by AOB

At the start of his career he was hailed as a great first grader. From memory he started in the centres, or had a game there and killed it. But unfortunately it was a one off. Played most in the second row, never set the world on fire but was consistently ok. Then he bulked up, moved to front row and more the same. His 2024/25 form was solid then got injured. This is off the top of my head from memory. So yeah before he got injured was going pretty well. So if he has that form again I’d actually have him slightly above the young forwards we have. I don’t think he’s as good as Mooney though.

I was thinking the other day, at what point did we stop using ponga at first reciever? We looked a better team when he was jumping in and ball playing in the middle. Swear i havnt seen it in months and last weekend in particular he seemed to just go edge to edge at the 3 man.

Smith has played more in the halves than Sharpe. I think the game plan changes slightly when that is happening. Completely agree with most now, we need to leave Sharpe at 6. Ponga might just into receiver with Brown, Sharpe, Ponga spine.

When we move our number 6 to any other position on the park at any given opportunity.
Consistency in the spine is all we wanted and we make three changes to the spine and outside backs due to one omission.
