NRL Round 17 - Knights Vs Eels - 5:30pm Saturday 29th June - McDonald Jones Stadium

Great game of footy. Really pleased with the effort. Nice to see some good attacking football from us. That left edge is getting some of that 2023 swagger back.

Our middles were great too. Both Safs, Hethro, Jones and Elliott really outplayed Parra up the guts. I thought Lucas and Thompson both being late withdrawals would’ve swayed it in their favour but we stood up.

Few disappointing defensive efforts from Gags but he’s been our best this year so he’s got plenty of credit in the bank.

Best is getting in the conversation for best centre in the game. He’s elite on both sides of the ball. Dumb as a pack of skittles but a great player.

12 hours later and still chuffed with the result. The kind of game we could easily have come up short in.

Our right winger scored a try and Braddy looks like he’s a level above everyone else on the pitch.

I don’t get the hate for Hastings. Fair enough he doesn’t have the pace or long kicking game of Moses but I think he’s a better on field general. Plus, his kicking for goal today was phenomenal.

Some interesting choices coming up for AOB. Does KP slot straight back in when fit? On paper/reputation he probably should but he is notoriously a slow starter when coming back from injury and Sharpe is playing very well at the moment. Similarly, will Pryce make way as soon as Gamble comes back? If Pryce plays like he did today it could be very difficult to take his spot but one poor performance and I reckon AOB will be switching out the halves again.

Bradman has his speed back.
One of those length of the field tries, Fletcher Sharpe was trying to do his usual run up beside him so he had someone to pass to if needed. Sharpe gave up after about 40 - Bradman was streaking away from everyone, including Sharpe.
At 23 his starting remind me of the great mal maniga. His power bursts through defenders and palm offs are very reminiscent of mal

Was a very good game, lots of tension, brilliant play and mistakes on both sides.
Sharpe was very good, Tuala consistent, Gags missed a couple but strong, Best was Best, excellent and Marzhew had his usual ups and down but ups were good, Pryce played better than I thought he would, much better than Cogger and will be better for run, Hastings had good game, controlled well and kicked a couple of good goals. Safs did very well especially first stint, made good runs. Crosslands played his usual enthusiastic game, strong tackles but not so good with passing. KPP, Friz and Elliott played good without standing out.
Bench. All were good though Croker got less time not playing till 2nd half.
The win was good and needed.

Make no mistake about it, when Ponga is fit, he is coming straight back in.

Gamble, depends on how Pryce is going at the time, and Crossland/Brailey.

Just watched the replay. Was really happy with Pryce’s debut. Got better as the game went on and came up with some really good plays when the game was on the line. Was better than anything that Cogger has ever done in a Knights jersey and the 5/8 is his until Gamble gets back and they can duke it out.

That's why I asked in another thread, is there any possibility of gamble & pryce working as a halves pairing?

Yeah I said to my brother at the game, I don't care what happens in the rest of this game, Cogger can rot in NSW Cup. You can already tell there's more points around Pryce. Not afraid to get involved, has a decent boot on him, already looks so much more likely.

Yeah I thought the halves were decent … would just love to see more structure and pace in our attack. But we could have put 50 on pretty easily if things had gone our way last night, so can’t complain too much I guess. We definitely improved as the game went on.

Mate you’re kidding yourself. Kalyn is our best player by a country mile. Can’t believe you are considering moving him. The bias for the local kid is ridiculous on this forum.

By going off this page, people be calling for Will’s head when he has one average game. The same as what happened to Armstrong after bulldogs game.

It seems the local lads in the team are the only ones that get a free pass on here when they have an average game.

Knights 66

LTS Pryce
Eels try scorer Pryce
MoMT Pryce

All hail Pryce. Our savior and the originator of the incoming winning streak to the finals……
I knew it!! The best 5/8 in the club WITHOUT doubt. How good will he be with more experience in the NRL. The Knights admin should now put all their efforts into long-time contracts for Pryce and Pearce-Paul before they get the call from the press gang at the Roosters!!

Solid debut for Pryce but I think there is still a lot of development required to get him up to the weekly grind of an NRL standard player. He has a lot of work still to do in developing his defensive capability - a tackle efficiency of 73%, with 5 missed and 2 ineffective is his biggest area for development. He also still needs to work a lot harder on his positional play and reading in defence...not criticising, just acknowledging that he has had a decent debut, is definitely capable of making NRL standard but he still has a lot more developing to do to be regular NRL standard.

He still has plenty of time to get up to that standard but with a 2 year extension just being signed, I can guarantee that Gamble comes straight back into the NRL squad as soon as he is fit to go.
