NRL Round 14 - Knights Vs Storm - 6:00pm Friday, 5th of June - AAMI Park

Gags is a weird one, he is obviously a legend of the club and seems to be alright despite few things creeping in his game.

I wouldn’t re-sign him unless it was on a minimum contract which I believe is $135k and I mean that’s good for a man Gagai’s age in this sport.

So far everyone has known he is off contract and has been able to speak with him anytime they wanted and I haven’t heard anything from any club after him in the nrl, so it’s not a matter of if he wishes to continue it’s a matter of will he be allowed to.

I think honestly we might be his only option right now if he wants to stay in the NRL, and I don’t think Hunt is even remotely ready for week in and out centre play with how hot and cold he can be, I would re-sign him on a minimum, we can’t afford to be sentimental with great juniors coming through, and people coming off contract, so it’s either a minimum or goodbye.

I’m aware he wants to play with his brother in England but I haven’t heard or seen anything other than sheer speculation, anyway I’ve rambled on enough, minimum contract is what I’d be happy with but I won’t be heartbroken if a English contract came across his desk and toke it and I certainly wouldn’t pay him anymore considering the situation we find ourselves in

Very much my take on it too.

Think Gags best option is ESL for two seasons, with his brother if that’s possible.
My worry about him staying longer, 1-2 seasons, is his form will drop, age, and also our younger players might look elsewhere for opportunities to play in firsts, we have adequate cover for his right centre position.
Bit similar to Friz but would like to see him for one more season, his experience up front is valuable but we do have players getting very ready to replace him

Then they can go both are well, well past their prime.
I think that’s a very harsh assessment. Age catches up to everyone but Frizz still offers great leg speed, quick play the ball to get sets moving and experience off the bench, gags is top 3 in tackle breaks in the whole comp and carved Melbourne up and nearly won us the game. I think you’re allowing their age to cloud your judgment of their performance.

I guess it’s the risk of holding on for too long. Injury, speed, form. And potentially holding back a new good prospect.

IDK, if we can get both of them on the cheap why not. Frizz more so. But Gags is still playing as a solid to very good centre in FG atm.
