NRL Round 13 - Knights Vs Eels - 3:00pm Saturday, 30th of May - McDonald Jones Stadium

Parra getting away with murder in the ruck
That is very obvious at the game. The crowd are howling it. I don’t know the rules anymore after playing and coaching for over 50 years. Similar “infringements “ are definitely not treated the same way by the officials in the same game, or one game and the next.
Many people are very confused watching the game and as a result the games’ integrity is being challenged, and rightly so.

We were pretty poor today. No intensity, plenty of unforced errors and lapses on both sides of the ball. Don’t care how poor the ref was we need to be a lot better than that if we want to be competitive at the business end of the season.

J Saf was immense, led the kick chase from the first set and had a few big runs. Brown was brilliant defensively and Lucas showed his class. Other than that we were pretty average.. KP won’t be that poor again anytime soon,

I guess you’ve got to win some games when you’re below your best to make the Top 4 but we’ll need to be much, much better if we want to beat Melbourne next week.

Gee that was a lot harder then it should have been
I’m going to give a couple of MY opinions here which I’m sure maybe a lot will disagree with

1 Ponga just played his worst game of footy in his career so far, made some terrible errors with the ball and both of the eels tries from grubbers he was way out of position. Maybe that HIA from Wednesday night did have a impact

2 Anyone who complains about Dylan Brown needs to go back and watch that whole game on his defence. He is the best defending half in the NRL by a country mile, we concede another 3-4 tries if it wasn’t for his 1 on 1 tackles today. Guys not everything is about attack

3 Sandon had an outstanding game before he got injured, both of our first 2 tries was from his direct pass, yes his defence needs work but his attack makes up for this

Otherwise Lucas and Saf was outstanding, Mooney tried his heard out like he always does

Young was absolutely pathetic today
Sitting in my seat at the ground , pretty much as I saw it . Good summary

For my two cents worth, yesterday was all about our errors for mine. I thought the efforts of the starting forwards were where they should be. If we got in the arm wrestle we were limiting their go forward really well in the first half. At least four of their sets they failed to make 20 running metres, then we'd make a mistake and they would capitalise.
We were lucky at one point in the second half when we were out our absolute worst handling wise that Parra were just as bad, otherwise that period would have cost us the game.

The attack looked clunky for sure, but the errors never let us get in any kind of groove. I can't really remember us attacking their line. I think those sets on an opposition line can be so important for us to get in the attacking groove. We throw so much at teams in those sets and it gives the playmakers a real look at what the opposition are doing.

I'm a big fan of Iongi, I think I the Eels have a great fullback there. But his defensive positioning on Lucas' two tries and the Graham one helped us immensely. He was too close to the defensive line and all three times rushed in to make a tackle before things really unfolded but was beaten pretty easily on each occasion leaving the player with a clear run to the line.

Given how clunky we were and the errors we made, Sandon's two first half assists were critical. Until watching the replay last night, I didn't realise how much traffic Lucas was in when he scored the first try. His hole run was outstanding and the pass had to be inch perfect, which it was. I know Sandon got isolated on his backrower in defence a couple of times yesterday, but he has been getting his body in front and isn't making the same mistakes with his defensive reads as he was earlier in the year. Another tick for Holbrook if that continues to be the case.

As others have said, Dyl Brown's defence is just immense for us. I'm going to marvel at it for his entire career here because it is just that good, but we are so lucky to have scored that bloke.

Talin DaSilva,
Apparently he is on $650k.
So glad we didn't sign him, he throws so many forwards passes (only a couple were called).
He also makes silly decisions on plays.
He did have a nice try assist with the boot though.
Threw a forward pass to give us possession in the lead up to Harrison's try. If we had signed Talin, I don't believe Graham would be here.

12 games in with a brand new spine and a fair few new faces, and lots of young players.

Halfway through the year and we are 4th, anyone complaining pull your head in, 3rd week in with most of our guns back.

Oh and the Best is still to come!

Let Penrith run away with it, Warriors losing pulls back 2nd place as well. With a bye and Dragons at home that’s 22 points already.
Excellent spot to be during the Origin period
