We might see periods of the game where Smith goes to 9 and Crossland gets a rest, Sharpe into the halves.

But that would require either Sharpe to wear the 14 or for us to carry an outside back replacement on the bench.

So it seems more likely that versatility out of necessity (injury etc) might be more of what Holbrook is referring to?

Could you imagine if we planned to do what Brisbane did? Forum meltdown.

Reynolds and Hunt start in halves. Paix at Hooker. Mam Bench. Mam comes on, Hunt to Hooker.

Brown and Smith start in halves. Crossland at Hooker. Sharpe Bench. Sharpe comes on, Smith to Hooker, Crossland to Lock.

Also, from that snippet of Holbrook, the transcript clearly reveals “he….play…hooker…this year”.
 
Haha the forum might meltdown because Mam playing 50 minutes was his return from injury plan rather than some tactical 11th dimensional chess. You’d rather have 50 mins of Ezra, with how well he plays off of Reyno and Walsh, and **** up your rotations a bit, than 80 mins of Reyno/Hunt in the halves. Hunt was also way better at hooker in that team. If they had an injury free season it would have been 1 Walsh 6 Mam 7 Reyno with Hunt at 9 or 14.

Article with teasers on the front and back page of the Herald that basically sets Brown up as either the hero or villian of las Vegas.
Article starts with plenty of quotes from the usual haters, saying that signing Brown "reeks of desperation" (Paul Gallan) and many others saying he is overpaid and not the player we need etc etc.
Goes on to quote Brown as saying he aspires to be better and more consistant and earn his big paycheck.
The article leaves the door open to dump on Brown from a great height if we lose, or pump him up bigtime if we win.

Realistically, Brown might take months to become the dominant playmaker in a new team for him, while Ponga has been there and done that, on and off, for years.

My opinion, Brown should be given a hall pass for 2 or even 3 months, and this article should be asking if Ponga is ready to finally deliver on his huge paycheck.
 

First video in the pre-season video journal series and it's a hard push on the Kalyn/Dylan combo/bromance. This sort of pandering will never work on me. Picture unrelated can't figure out how to delete.

Every training shot looks like it has Dylan on the right edge. Is that also a glimpse of Fletcher at right centre early on, or fullback?
 
Says the same on the NRL website also. We will know for sure tomorrow afternoon in the team lists. (If ESL is getting on that plane!)
 
When was the last time one of our matches opened an NRL season? Last one I can think of is Bennett’s first game against the Dragons?

Vlandys and his media mates can crow about it as much as they want hosting it exclusive but opening on an early Sunday afternoon doesn’t have anywhere near the vibe and hype that having it on a Thursday night on 9, just doesn’t feel as right. Just something about the prime time kick off slot

I'm worried we won't really know the whole plan until the final whistle. I hope there isn't too much disruption to the spine during the game from a tactical point of view.

Honestly the last few years the Vegas thing has just felt like a sideshow to me … the season really kicks off the week after when we get a full round (minus two games).
