Overall, I didn’t see them winning this game, didn’t think it would even be close but I’m proud of the boys with a few exceptions, on tonight’s effort. A couple of what if moments, KP’s poor pass to DG. If that pass was caught, I think we may have gone on to win. Alas, it was not to be. Another heartbreaking year for all Knights supporters. Just one more point, I don’t see all the fuss about KPP, he offers nothing to this team, especially in attack.
Kpp is playing on the wrong side, also his first year.

Remember the difference in Dom from season 1 to season 2 and then season 3

Yeah they would totally have not bothered putting in the effort yesterday if not for that, it totally turned things around for them in front of a big home crowd playing sudden death football.

Just lol, gotta love the ridiculous levels some people take posts to.

Where did I say if not for that comment the Cowboys would have been flat? Or they had no other motivation? Your posts is a ridiculous strawman!

The comment was made that the Cowboys wouldn't even hear it from OB in local news, fact is they did. We can never know if that added any "additional" motivation (see what I did there James?), but the fact is we have no history of finals success for OB to be out there saying how "Battle Hardened" we are lol. Just shut your trap and do the talking on the field. But we all know we can't do that.

I can imagine if the Cowboys were having a difficult week for whatever reason getting themselves up for this game, hearing your opposition coach talking about how you aren't battle hardened and have had a few blowouts would certainly help turn that around. But we can never know can we.

Maybe the cows had no problem getting up for the game and the comment had no effect at all. But just don't say it, it isn't a good look for a coach of a team that hasn't acheived anything of note in decades to be spruiking how battle hardened they are.

Edit> Tod Payten alluded to it in the presser, there was some question of our toughness, I think we answered that tonight! And he mentioned the comments prior to the game, asked about OB's comments he referenced the Cows coming back from 2 tries down to beat the Knights earlier in the season.

You don't think Todd honed in on those comments and used that in his buildup to playing us? Really, player and coach both mentioned it after the game. Seems they took it as a motivating factor to me!

Hopefully this defeat will motivate our boys to smash The Cowboys next year if They ever play at our Home Ground in front of our Hostile Home Crowd if I'm Aob during the week leading upto the match I'll be calling for our crowd to sell the place out and be twice as hostile as Their crowd was last night! :) .

Agree. OB’s comments could’ve gone either way as far as mind games are concerned. It was obviously additional motivation for the Girls. Perhaps if we had more credibility to be playing mind games in the first place (I.e some substance behind the claims) the intended outcome would’ve come to fruition. But I don’t think this is why we lost. We lost because of several lucky as **** things happening all in one play. And a pass KP would love to throw again (not blaming him - he knows it), and yep, we would’ve lost by plenty without him.

It was just some exaggeration for comic effect.

It’s something they might mention in the interviews, but imo things like this have absolutely zero impact given the pre-existing importance of the game.

I hope that reply is serious enough for you and finds you well, good sir.

Also love when someone makes a comment, then hides behind the shield of "it was just a joke".

It’s loser mentality to go into a game stepping on eggshells to make sure you don’t say something which might make the other team a little bit grumpy. Say whatever you think will fire your own boys up and have them playing with a chip on their shoulder.

I’ve heard AOB say “I don’t wanna give the other side any extra motivation” in other press conferences in preceding years and to me that’s way worse. That tells your players “I only think you can win if the other side puts in a flat performance”.

He wants us to play a grinding, defence-oriented style of footy where the other side feels like they’re playing with lead boots on the whole time? That’s fine by me, but on top of punting players like D Saf who don’t fit with that, you need to give the team a bit of a siege mentality to go with it, a bit of confidence in their own toughness. The Panthers don’t go out there thinking “oh gee, we’re just going to put our best effort into the game and hope it turns out for the best”. Their mindset is “we are going to grind those ****s into the mud and then ****ing laugh at them while they choke”.

I love that mindset also, if you can back it up. Penrith have lost that edge they had, they were ridiculed for being arrogant and that is because they didn't care, they knew they were far better than every other team and it showed.

We have zero runs on the board and zero reason to be mouthing off at the opposition. And even the Penrith coach through those times, wasn't taking pot shots at his opponents pre game in do I die finals!

It was stupid, and trying to defend it is just OB apologising.

If OB wants a siege mentallity, he can say what he likes behind closed doors, plenty of motivation he can draw on to get them fired up for the game. But keep it private.

Anyway, I'm done with this whole thing. We lost, again, and thats all anyone remembers.

I didn’t say it was a joke, I said exaggerated for comic effect. Of course they would have still put effort in without AOB’s comment, but the point is imo it had zero effect, and I think it’s ridiculous to say it had any effect … apart from a few comments at the end of the game

Do you really think the Cowboys players were digging deep during the match, with everything else that was on the line, thinking … damn, AOB really laid into us, we’re so gonna prove him wrong!

Wayne Bennett tried it with Cleary in 2021 after the Souths beat the Panthers, worked out well for him heh. Even Paul Kent said they were done after that loss, kiss of death.

Still fuming about us losing this game with so much going against us...... I still cannot for the life of me figure out why the Taumalolo high shot wasn't a sin bin. Was it because Leo got up straight to his feet? Maybe he should have laid down like the rest do.

Not to mention the Cotter BS try.....

We got screwed hard by Todd Smith in that game, every call went against us hence why we had 3 successfull challenges. Zero set restarts. It was crap. AOB was very controlled not to call it out, personally I thought it was worth the fine.
